Riverview is a large Carson City neighborhood down by the river
East Fifth Street leads travelers up a hill before descending into the valley community of Riverview. This area on the east side of Nevada’s capital shares its name with a 109-acre park on the Carson River. The two outdoor attractions, combined with a few others, put a myriad of activities at the fingertips of this large community. “It’s really close to the Carson River, where it’s got really cool walking trails to walk your dog, to hike or whatever you like to do,” says Kathy Dean, a Realtor with Re/Max Professionals. “It’s secluded from Carson and just about everybody...and it’s real pretty.”
Dense suburban communities and properties with room for animals
The area’s most dense housing areas are around the Empire Ranch Golf Course and the blocks between Riverview Park and the entrance to the Prison Hill area. Those communities primarily consist of ranch-style and late 20th-century Traditional homes with custom touches. “Buzzys Ranch Road has really nice custom homes," Dean says. "Everything in that valley is custom for that time period." Other parts of Riverview feature more hilly landscapes, while properties east of the Carson River make room for animals. Prices go from $450,000 for a ranch-style house to $800,000 for a larger and more upscale Traditional. Some options go above that range, while prospective buyers will also find townhouses between $300,000 and $400,000. “It’s got older houses in it and few new ones here and there," Dean says. "It’s also really nice because the houses actually have land with them."Homes in Carson City have a severe wildfire risk, according to First Street. There have been three recorded wildfires in the area with the most recent occurring in 2021.
Dog walking, biking and kayaking in Riverview
Before entering Riverview Park, some will see the Korean War Veterans Memorial. The memorial neighbors the Pierini Ranch Site’s preserved remnants — a small brick and stone milk house and an outdoor brick oven. Riverview Park draws dog walkers, cyclists and horseback riders. Its unpaved trails connect to paths like the Mexican Ditch Trail, which offers a route across the sagebrush landscape to Prison Hill. “It’s kind of a cool thing to get because you can see all of Carson City from the top, and you can see the Sierras completely,” Dean says about the 2,500-acre area.Carson River Park offers launch points for kayakers and canoers. Other recreational sites in the area include the 27-hole Empire Ranch Golf Course, which is open to the public, and the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range.
Variety of Hispanic cuisines along Lincoln Highway
The commercial area at the corner of Lincoln Highway and Fairview Drive has a couple of gaming places, the Slot World and Jackpot Crossing casinos. Slot World patrons may enjoy beers on tap and stop by Betsy’s Big Kitchen for classic American breakfasts and other comfort meals. More local restaurants are a little farther down Lincoln, including mom and pop spots like Taqueria Alonso Mexican Food and Coco’s Taqueria y Pupuseria. The latter specializes in Salvadoran cuisine. Located right outside the neighborhood, Lady Tamales is another small local staple serving authentic Mexican fare. Foodmaxx is the nearest grocery store.
Eagle Valley Middle’s strong robotics program
Empire Elementary School is outside Riverview and gets a B-minus from Niche. The neighborhood is home to Eagle Valley Middle School, which gets a B. The robotics team, the Metallic Eagles, is among the middle school’s notable extracurricular activities. Team participants get early exposure to coding and tech skills. Its accolades include a top finish during northern Nevada’s FIRST LEGO League competition in 2024. Students here may then go to Carson High School, which gets a B from Niche.
Carson City Airport’s annual aircraft display and holiday hikes
The nearby Carson City Airport hosts an annual open house to display planes from different generations. Attendees enjoy food and live music as they look at anything from drones and homebuilt planes to vintage military aircraft. The date for this event may vary, but the 2024 edition took place in September. Riverview Park is also a site for small nature-oriented events. In December, the Carson City Park Rangers lead a holiday hike and encourage participants to wear holiday sweaters. The walk goes from the park to the Carson River and involves some education on local wildlife.
Located along Lincoln Highway thoroughfare
Lincoln Highway, or U.S. Highway 50, borders the neighborhood to the north and connects commuters to Interstate 580. The interstate goes to Washoe Valley neighbors like Reno, located 34 miles north. Lincoln Highway also goes to downtown Carson City, about 4 miles to the west. The neighborhood is close to the Carson City and Parker Carson airports, but both facilities handle general aviation. For commercial flights, travelers go to the Reno-Tahoe International Airport in Reno. Located 5 miles west, the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center is the city’s main hospital.
