Carpenter
Styles unique to each subdivision
Much of the new construction that drives the market are townhouses or row homes, and two- to three-bedroom units that sell for around $350,000 to $650,000. Most of the subdivisions are well-planned and self-contained, with sidewalks, abundant streetlights and well-kept lawns. Carpenter Village is an older section of Cary, mostly built in the late 90s to early 00s. It features Charleston- and Colonial-style homes with details like balconies, wrap-around front porches and large windows. In the Cameron Pond subdivision, single-family homes built in the early 2010s are larger, usually with four or more bedrooms, and sell for more than $1 million. “All the homes were built by custom builders,” says Nicole Mudd, a Cameron Pond resident and Realtor with Premier Agents Network. New homes similar in size and price range are found in the Wellfield subdivision. Carpenter is also home to Blakeley, a 55+ active adult community.Wake County schools get straight As in Carpenter
Receiving an A-minus on Niche, Carpenter Elementary School has a 14-to-1 student-teacher ratio. Alston Ridge Middle School is graded with an A and ranked the 19th best public middle school in North Carolina on Niche. Wake County schools often have an attendance cap and students are assigned to an overflow school. They may attend Panther Creek High, ranked the 11th best public high school in North Carolina and has an A-plus rating. The overflow school is Green Hope High, rated no. 12 with an A-plus grade. “People pick this area for the schools,” says Guerreiro.Green spaces, greenways and community gardens
Carpenter Park has 16 acres, with a playground, basketball and pickleball courts and walking trails around a central pond. The park houses the Carpenter Community Garden, with 50 plot renters each year. “There are lots of greenway trails,” Mudd says. “There is probably more than one lake with trails that connect to the greenway that you can walk around.” On the western side of the Carpenter neighborhood, Panther Creek Greenway connects to neighboring areas such as Cary Park and nearby Mills Park schools. On the eastern side, Hatcher Creek Greenway provides a trail to Morrisville Community Park. Some subdivisions have their own amenities, residents of Carpenter Village can go for a swim at their outdoor pool or enjoy a game on the tennis and sand volleyball courts.Carpenter Farm Supply: not just for farmers
Some parts of the neighborhood form the Carpenter Historic District, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. The historic Carpenter Farm Supply Co. has been serving the community since 1885, and is still a favorite among residents for farm supplies, household necessities and even old-fashioned snacks and sodas. At the eastern end of the neighborhood, just across the border to Morrisville a Walmart provides access to groceries and household essentials. A Food Lion off of Morrisville-Carpenter Road offers residents another option when stocking their pantries. Fast food options like Taco Bell ranging to local chains, including Mi Cancun Mexican Restaurant, are in the same plaza and across the street. Located in Carpenter Village, Blue Fox Indian Cuisine serves homemade, authentic soul food.Local farms and nightlife downtown
B&B Theatres over in Morrisville, 3.5 miles away, shows all the new releases, but Phillip Farms provides screen-free fun. “It’s got a lot of activities going on and everyone’s there,” Mudd says. “Particularly in the fall for all of the hayrides, pumpkins and games.” For exciting nightlife, residents tend to make the 15-minute, 6.5-mile trek into downtown Cary for access to museums and music venues. They can stop by the Page-Walker Arts & History Center, housed in a converted historic hotel, to check out an art exhibit or learn about herbal medicine in their educational gardens.Catch a flight at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport
The residential, suburban nature of Carpenter means there’s little transit that serves the neighborhood. The area is walkable, with sidewalks along most of the roads. The major thoroughfare of NC 540 serves as the neighborhood’s western boundary and makes it easy for residents to reach Interstate 40, which will connect them to Raleigh within around 10 miles. The Raleigh-Durham International Airport is about 7 miles from the neighborhood and will take residents around 15 minutes. Residents can access care at WakeMed Cary Hospital, which is 9.5 miles away and will take residents around 20 minutes.
