Crossroads
Suburban Neighborhood in Cary, North Carolina
Wake County 27518, 27606
A wide variety with low inventory
Those looking to move to this commercial, yet leafy area will discover a mix of architectural styles, ranging from 1970s exposed brick ranch-styles to townhouses to contemporary homes with two-car garages. A 1,000 square foot condo could go for a low as $250,000 and from there prices go all the way up to $1 million for a sprawling 5,000 square-foot, single family home with five bedrooms. “We have a very low inventory and prices are very high. That’s true across the country, but it’s even harder to find a home when you’re looking at a place that has everything,” Gonzalez says. “The average days-on-market is 30 days. It used to be three days. What’s changed is the interest rates.”Walking to chains and local eateries
From Home Depot to Target to Starbucks to Harris Teeter, Crossroads residents have easy access to nationally recognized chains at the many shopping centers here. “There are a lot of little strip shopping centers,” says Monte Maney, a lifelong North Carolinian and Broker with Coldwell Banker Advantage. "I’m sitting in front of one right now about to get my hair cut. It has a big grocery store, a pizza place and an ice cream shop. But, there aren’t any huge malls around here.” The area isn’t all big-box stores, there are some locally-owned options to choose from as well. For eating out, Barry’s Café serves all-day breakfast foods in a firefighter-themed retro diner. Craft Public House in Tryon Village shopping center is the go-to spot to have a gourmet burger and beer with friends while watching the game. Or residents can catch a movie on the big screen at Regal Crossroads.Highly rated school with options
Part of the Wake County Public School Systems, most students attend Dillard Drive Elementary, which earns a B grade on Niche. A small part of the neighborhood is zoned for A-minus-rated Swift Creek Elementary. Both schools feed into Dillard Drive Middle and Athens Drive Magnet High, which are rated B-plus and A, respectively. “A lot of people move to the area just for the schools,” Gonzalez says. Score Academy is a C-plus-rated alternative high school with reengagement and reassignment programs. There is also the option to attend Wake STEM Early College High. With an A-plus rating, students here take North Carolina State University courses.Bordered by major highways
Located off I-40, residents benefit from easy access to US-1 and US-64. The area is also fairly walkable, “Depending on where you live, there are a lot of trails and sidewalks that lead to restaurants, stores and parks,” Gonzalez says. The Raleigh-Durham International can be reached in about 12.5 miles, while the nightlife of downtown Raleigh is 15 miles away. In addition to walking, it’s possible to get around some parts of the neighborhood via bus. .Seasonal events at the local mall
Crossroads Plaza hosts events year-round, often revolving around holidays. In December, they have Cocoa with Santa and a tree lighting. During Halloween, there’s a bash with music, trivia and games for the whole family. In May, residents can check out the weekly Saturday music series with fun themes like 80s flashback.Playing amoung public art and sculptures
At Marla Dorrel Park, kids can climb on the Katal, the playground’s green dragon sculpture, shoot some hoops or skate at the Action Sports Pop-up Park. Via The Hinshaw Greenway, a nearly 2-mile-long paved trail that leads to a pedestrian bridge adorned with a massive art installation of steel leaves, Marla Dorrel connects to MacDonald Woods Park. The Speight Branch Greenway, which loops around Macedonia Lake, is another popular spot among dog walkers, bikers and joggers.
