Designed by Martha and KB Homes
Those dreaming of living a Martha Stewart lifestyle can make fantasy a reality in Twin Lakes, a subdivision she created with KB Homes in 2006. “Even the colors were Martha Stewart colors,” says Barbara Levine, a Realtor with Liz Moore & Associates, about a home she sold in the neighborhood. “She put her name on it." Located between Cary and the center of Morrisville, the area also features a vibrant commercial presence and multiple recreational spots including a neighborhood pool and tennis courts. However, before moving to Stewart’s neighborhood, buyers should know there may be a weather-resistant barrier missing from under a home’s exterior siding — which resulted in residents filing a class action lawsuit against KB Homes that has since been settled.

Taking inspiration from New England
When the Twin Lakes community first opened, it sold out of its first 100 homes within the first week. Now, “It’s an increasingly popular area,” says Ashleigha Maksim, a Realtor with Real Broker, LLC. "The houses are fairly traditional, with an early 2000s style.” Stewart based the designs on her own homes in New York, Connecticut and Maine. Single-family and townhouses feature elements like large dining rooms with wainscoting details and built-in window seats ideal for curling up with a book. Or watching neighbors walk by on the sidewalks that loop into cul-de-sacs shaded by mature trees and pristine bushes. A two-bedroom townhouse will start around $350,000. Single-family homes with three to four bedrooms will range from $500,000 to $850,000.

Stores and restaurants right along the neighborhood
Conveniently located, “Twin Lakes is very walkable, with plenty of grocery stores and restaurants bordering the neighborhood,” says Maksim. “They’ve even opened a Wegmans right in the area.” One of the biggest draws to Twins Lakes is that it features its own shopping hub, McCrimmon Corners, across the street on Davis Drive. This center houses Harris Teeter, a few supply stores and medical facilities. There are also independent eateries like Two Guys Grille, known for its beach-inspired American grub, and Hyderabad House Biryani Place with its popular Indian buffet. Along with McCrimmon Corners, Davis Drive has various professional services, beauty salons, restaurants, and convenience stores sprinkled along the neighborhood’s west side.
