Cedar Creek offers peaceful rural living in the Austin suburbs

The community of Cedar Creek is nestled in the secluded, natural landscape of Central Texas, giving residents access to an array of amenities while positioning them about 25 miles from the thriving Capital city of Austin. “It’s more of a peaceful country setting,” says Kelley Harris of Stanberry Realtors, who lives in neighboring Bastrop and has sold several homes in the community. Three of Cedar Creek’s four public schools and a community park are conveniently located off the state highway that runs through town. Open spaces provide room for horse riding and the nearby Capital of Texas Zoo is among a collection of outdoor attractions just minutes away.

“There's affordable living and also high-end living"

Residential pockets with an eclectic mix of homes are spread throughout the community. “There's affordable living and also high-end living,” Harris says. Ranch-style homes and manufactured homes are common along quiet country roads dotted by mature trees. The occasional modern-style home stands out. Contemporary designs are also part of this mix, and most are found in more walkable subdivision settings. These homes are often the largest and most expensive in the community and typically come with driveways and attached garages. New homes with these standard features continue to be built by major homebuilders such as Meritage Homes and D.R. Horton. Prices typically range from around $200,000 to about $600,000, although homes with additional land can list for more. “Cedar Creek is more affordable than other areas, but some parts are more expensive, like River Crossing and Double Eagle Ranch,” Harris says. Residents can expect hot, humid summers and periods of heavy rain. The region is part of “Flash Flood Alley.”

Students don't have to leave the community to attend school

Cedar Creek is part of the Bastrop Independent School District, which earns a B-minus from Niche. Students do not have to leave the community to attend pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Cedar Creek Elementary School is rated C-minus. Cedar Creek Intermediate and Cedar Creek Middle schools share a campus and are rated C-minus and C, respectively. Nearby Cedar Creek High School is rated B-minus. “One of my sons was in the first graduating class in Cedar Creek,” says Harris, who adds that her overall experience with the district was positive. The high school features a Career & Technical Education program. The district allows students to apply for transfers in and out of the district.

Children, horses and outdoors enthusiasts enjoy recreational spaces

Cedar Creek Park is the center of community activity. Ballfields and children’s playscapes anchor acres of athletic amenities and gathering spaces. La Victoria Training Center is a community equestrian center that offers clinics and camps and hosts riding events. Equestrian trails are among the amenities at nearby McKinney Roughs Nature Park. Other activities include hiking, biking and zip lining. Visitors can also access the Colorado River for more rural recreation.

Nearby Bastrop has several popular restaurants

A few commercial options are available in and around the community, and a wider variety is concentrated in the heart of neighboring Bastrop, about 12 miles away. Walmart and H.E.B. Plus! anchor a variety of shopping options. Local restaurants are a highlight of the city’s many dining destinations. “Maxine’s is very popular for breakfast, 602 Brewing Company is very popular for dinner and live music, and Gracie’s has awesome chicken fried steak.”

Austin easily accessible by car, public transportation

Residents who do not want to drive into Austin can take advantage of regional public transportation. A Central Texas Rural Transit System park-and-ride station is located approximately 10 miles from the community. Ascension Seton Bastrop Hospital is also about 10 miles away. There are several larger hospitals in the Austin area. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is about 18 miles away. The community’s CAP Index Crime Score of 2-out-of-10 is lower than the national average of 4-out-of-10.
