On the northern outskirts of Austin, the Cedar Park neighborhood of Red Oaks consists of 455 homes built between 2006 and 2011. Located between Lakeline Park and Cypress Creek Road, the neighborhood is zoned for highly rated public schools and offers proximity to the shopping and dining along Cypress Creek Road. “Red Oaks was established as a planned community and has builders like D.R. In suburban Cedar Park, Red Oaks is within a mile of U.S. Route 183, which takes commuters about 20 miles south into Austin.

Niche rates Leander Independent School District as A-plus overall and as one of the best school districts in the Austin area. Reed Elementary, rated B-plus, is in the neighborhood. Artie L. Henry Middle School and Vista Ridge High are both rated A. The high school was built in 2003 to accommodate the growing population in Cedar Park, and since that time Vista Ridge High has won the Austin Regional Science Fair Sweepstakes Award over 15 times, which recognizes the high quantity of winning projects submitted by students.

During the hot summer months, residents can take a dip in the neighborhood pool, which is surrounded by lounge chairs and crepe myrtle trees. Red Oaks also has a community clubhouse with a picnic and grill area, a basketball court and a shaded playground.
Lakeline Park borders Red Oaks. Newly opened in 2023, it offers locals a covered pavilion for live performances, a playground with zip lines, multipurpose athletic fields and wildflower meadows. A paved trail winds around the lake, which has a short fishing pier and canoes and kayaks available for rent. Land to the west of the lake will be developed into the second phase of Lakeline Park; when completed, Lakeline Park will be the biggest in the city of Cedar Park, spanning over 200 acres.
At Twin Lakes Family YMCA, parents can enroll their kids in children’s activities while they work out. Members have access to a host of recreational amenities and classes, from the gymnastics gym to group exercise studios.

Cypress Creek Road, Lakeline Mall and The Domain offer shopping and dining
At the northern tip of Red Oaks, locals can unwind with chips, salsa and margaritas at the highly rated, colorfully decorated Santa Catarina Mexican Restaurant. Residents can fuel up with a burger at Whataburger before getting groceries at Randalls. In addition to the shopping and dining along Cypress Creek Road, shopping centers south of the neighborhood offer other options. “Lakeline Mall has gone downhill, but there are popular shopping centers in Cedar Park, and The Domain is not that far,” says Mary Williams, Realty Austin Realtor who specializes in the northern suburbs of Austin. Macy’s and Dillard’s anchor the indoor Lakeline Mall, while big box retailers like Best Buy, Target and H-E-B plus! surround it. About 10 miles south, The Domain is an outdoor, pedestrian-friendly mall with a variety of high-end retailers, like Burberry and Neiman Marcus.

Driving down U.S. Route 183 to Austin

Red Oaks is about 26 miles north of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
