Centerville offers attractive housing close to Anderson's amenities
Centerville is a residential community that offers an attractive destination in Upstate South Carolina. Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Centerville features appealing residential settings, where mature trees highlight the natural landscape. “Centerville is basically a part of Anderson,” says Shiela Newton, who has been in the Upstate market since 1989 and heads up her own team for BHHS C. Dan Joyner Realtors. “It’s mostly suburban, but there are some rural areas, especially near the lake.” The community is conveniently located near Lake Hartwell, which separates it from Interstate 85. Centerville has its own elementary school, and residents enjoy easy access to Anderson’s array of amenities.
Ranch-style homes and contemporary homes are common
Single-story, midcentury homes are prominent among the community’s housing options. “There are a lot of older, brick ranch homes,” Newton says. “Probably more of those there than anywhere else in Anderson.” Ranch-style homes often sit on spacious lots along quiet streets, while newer homes are more likely to be found in more compact subdivision settings. “They’re building more two-story homes because you can get more house on a smaller lot,” Newton says. Contemporary homes built closer together offer smaller lawns but back yards large enough for pools. Prices range from under $150,000 to $400,000-plus. “A lot of people choose Anderson County over Greenville County because the taxes are lower,” Newton says. Residents can expect hot, humid summers; crisp, foliage-filled falls; and winters with occasional cold snaps and snowfall.
Downtown Anderson is a popular spot for shopping, dining and events
Residents have access to a handful of commercial options, including an antique store and restaurants, in the community. But most shopping and dining destinations are concentrated nearby. Anderson is home to several retail centers and a historic downtown district that features an array of contemporary dining and drinking destinations, specialty shops and more. Movie Night in Carolina Wren Park and First Friday, where residents can shop, dine and unwind, are featured events. Farm to Table is a multi-day signature event in the fall. “Downtown, there’s always something to do nowadays,” Newton says. Additional shopping and dining options can be found near the other side of the community along South Carolina Highway 24.
Anderson school district is rated A-minus
The community is served by Anderson School District 5, which earns an A-minus from Niche. Young students don’t have to leave the community to attend Centerville Elementary School, rated B-plus. Older students can attend Robert Anderson Middle School, rated B, and nearby Westside High School, rated B-minus. The high school offers dual-enrollment courses in conjunction with Tri-County Technical College in Anderson. Students in kindergarten through eighth grade can apply for transfers to specific schools within the district through the Cluster Choice program.
Lake Hartwell is a regional destination for outdoors enthusiasts
Residents are just minutes away from Lake Hartwell, a 56,000-acre recreational destination that snakes its way through the nearby countryside. The lake is an anchor for regional tourism and a haven for boaters, anglers and outdoors enthusiasts of all kinds. And its shores are home to beachfront parks, boat ramps, campgrounds and dedicated recreation areas. Anderson offers a variety of amenities-filled parks and recreation centers.
I-85 offers direct access to Greenville
Interstate 85 is easily accessible from the community, and it provides convenient travel to regional destinations. Greenville is about 30 miles away via I-85. Electric City Transit buses provide public transportation to local points of interest in Anderson. The Green Route runs just outside the community along McGee Road. Senior citizens and disabled residents can call ahead to be picked up. AnMed Health operates two hospitals in Anderson, which offers several additional medical facilities. Anderson has its own regional airport, but the closest place for commercial flights is the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, about 40 miles from the community.
