“We have lots of festivals here; we have state fairs, lots of concerts and Broadway shows that come to nearby Tempe and we have all the pro sports within a 30-minute drive,” Smale says. Spring training for major league baseball teams starts in February, and locals in Ironwood Vistas are within 15 miles of three Cactus League ballparks: Sloan Park, Hohokam Stadium and Tempe Diablo Stadium, where the Chicago Cubs, Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Angels play. Chandler’s largest annual event is the Ostrich Festival at Tumbleweed Park in March, which celebrates the city’s history as an early 20th-century farming community with ranches full of sheep, cattle and ostriches; festival highlights include ostrich racing, concerts and carnival games.
