Suburban living surrounded by nature in Shadowmoss
Just beyond the swamps of the Ashley River lies Shadowmoss, a suburban neighborhood surrounded by nature. The area is known for attracting families in the West Ashley region of Charleston. “My parents live in Shadowmoss, my son lives there and a lot of my friends live there,” says Charleston native Ashley Dangerfield, the broker and owner of Charleston Home Team. "People like Shadowmoss because it's very diverse, with lots of people from different places. It’s established but still growing.” The Shadowmoss Golf & Country Club is a social gathering place for many residents. “They just remodeled the clubhouse and added a pool house. They have lots of community activities,” Dangerfield says.

Buying home, safety and weather history
Shadowmoss has multiple home styles, including single-story ranch styles, residences with colonial influences and New Traditional houses. There are also a few farmhouses with wide-set porches. “You’ve got new homes, but you also have homes in the back, where my parents live, that have been there 40 years or so,” Dangerfield says. “A lot of those older homes are getting remodeled because people are moving out and moving in.” Most houses cost between $400,000 and $660,000. However, residences over 3,000 square feet can range from $700,000 to $900,000. Townhomes and condos built between the 1980s and early 2000s range from $200,000 to $350,000. Newer units, like those found in Middleborough Condominiums, range between $650,000 and $675,000.
The community has a CAP Index crime score of 1 out of 10, significantly lower than the national average of 4. The region has a history of tropical storms and hurricanes that may result in property damage and flooding.

Locals enjoy game clubs and parades
Dangerfield says that residents often get together for public and private community events. “All the ladies are playing Bunco, Mahjong and Left Right Center. You’ll see a lot of that at the clubhouse, but it also branches out into little groups at people’s homes.” She says that the neighborhood also hosts several parades throughout the year.

About 3 miles down the roadway are a Harris Teeter and Walmart Supercenter. "You can go to the Shadowmoss Clubhouse to eat. But there is a new place nearby called EGY Dough. It’s an Egyptian restaurant, and it is so good," Dangerfield says. She also recommends Shuckin' Shack Oyster Bar and Alvin Ord’s Sandwich Shop.
