“One of my favorite things about buying in Outer South Charlotte is that pretty much no matter where you buy, you are going to be conveniently located next to a variety of shops, restaurants and grocery stores,” Patton says. RiverGate, a large shopping mall featuring Target, The Home Depot, Marshalls and other familiar stores, is next to the neighborhood. Chain restaurants join regional favorites, such as Jim ‘N Nicks Community Bar-B-Q and Showmars, a Greek-American fast-food joint. The locally owned A Piece of Havana is known for its flavorful Cuban dishes and live music on Fridays and Saturdays. Area parks include the sprawling McDowell Nature Preserve, offering hiking, camping, and access to Lake Wylie, as well as Thomas McAlister Winget Park, featuring a playground and fields for soccer and baseball.
