Starting in the 2024-to-2025 school year, Garinger will provide three new magnet programs, including World Languages, Exercise Science, and an accelerated learning option called Cambridge. Crowds flock to the performance venues off Andrew Jackson Highway. The 8,600-seat Bojangles Coliseum regularly hosts Charlotte Checkers hockey games. The nearby Ovens Auditorium features entertainers like Irish-American dancer Michael Flatley and has staged musicals like Wicked. On Briar Creek Road, The Park Expo and Conference Center hosts events like karate tournaments and gymnastics meets. NFL fans travel 5 miles to watch the Panthers play.
Getting around town
Andrew Jackson Highway routes residents along the four-mile commute into Charlotte's bustling business district. Locals can ride by car or hop on a CATS bus via the stops lining Monroe Road. The nearest light rail station is 1 ½ miles north in Elizabeth. The city's highly anticipated LYNX Silver Line will have a connection at the Bojangles Coliseum. The light rail is planned to open in 2037. Residents take U.S. Route 74 about 4 miles northwest to Center City, where companies like Bank of America, Duke Energy and Wells Fargo are headquartered. "It's an area that's seeing a lot of development because of the location," says Realtor Jason Morton, who sells homes in the area for Premier South and East Side Local. Morton recommends visiting Hawthorne's New York Pizza and Bar – 3 miles northwest. Locals travel 2 miles to shop at Food Lion, Ross Dress for Less and Hibbett Sports at Eastway Square.
