Firestone-Garden Park

Homes from every year from the 1970s to today
Firestone-Garden Park’s residential streets are wide and winding, framed by trees and the occasional streetlamp. Brick ranch-style and split-level homes on narrow lots with wooded backyards are exceedingly common, as many were built in the 1970s. As development continued into the ‘90s and mid-2000s, brick-and-vinyl New Traditional homes became the dominant style, featuring prominent two-car garages and grassy lawns framed by hedges. “We’re starting to see a lot of older homes that are being renovated here,” Topoozian adds, with updated properties listing at a premium. New constructions can also be found in this still-growing neighborhood, from spacious Craftsman-inspired builds on a quarter-acre lot to three-bedroom townhouses with upgraded appliances. The area median is roughly $285,000, below the Charlotte metro median. However, prices can climb to $445,000 for a new build with two stories and an open floorplan, while established homes in need of updates and repairs can list at $175,000 for handy buyers with a tight budget.DubC High is beloved by community members
Families in the area can send their kids to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, starting at Oakdale Elementary and Ranson Middle. Both schools score a C grade from Niche. West Charlotte High, which earns a C-minus, is a longstanding point of pride for residents. Affectionately called DubC by locals, it was originally opened as a school for African American students in 1938. It opened its new, state-of-the-art campus in 2022.Close to two Interstates for easy travel
Firestone-Garden Park is positioned squarely between Uptown and the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, as both can be reached with a seven-mile drive. For less traffic, locals take Beatties Ford Road straight into Center City. Residents typically need a car to get around here, with the interchange for Interstates 77 and 85 close to home. Some transit is available, with Charlotte Area Transit bus stops along Beatties Ford Road and an expanded streetcar line set to run to the neighborhood’s Rosa Parks Place Community Transit Center. One local café is creating a buzz
Everyday necessities are along the northern edge of the neighborhood on Sunset Road, a short drive from most homes. With a Food Lion, Aldi, UPS Store and CVS all clustered around the same intersection, running errands is easy, and Northlake Mall is just another 11 miles up Beatties Ford Road. To the south, a handful of local eateries are just a couple miles from home. Archive CLT, a café located just south of the neighborhood, has been getting regional and national buzz ever since its opening in 2022 — and not just for its expertly brewed cups of coffee. It’s also a self-described culture shop, with walls and shelves full of vintage memorabilia centering and celebrating Black culture for residents to purchase or admire.Outdoors and outreach
Splashed across the bricks of the community’s McCrorey YMCA is a mural — one of many spanning the Beatties Ford Road corridor — with the bold phrase “know justice.” Local artist Georgie Nakima designed the public art installation alongside local teens as part of the YMCA’s Level Up evening program. The branch offers numerous other activities, from youth sports to adult classes to after-school and summer care, and is a great place to get active on cold or rainy days. When it’s sunny, residents flock to Firestone Park for outdoor fun. Kids love the recently renovated playground, and the basketball court and wide-open grassy field are perfect for pickup games. Those who prefer golf as their sport of choice can head right up the road to Sunset Hills Golf Course, a public course that boasts a full 18-hole course, a nine-hole executive course for beginners and a driving range.
