From farming to expanding suburban development
Nevin Community, an old farming community 6 miles north of Uptown Charlotte, offers a convenient location for its residents. The transition from commercial landscapes to rows of tidy, suburban residences after turning off Statesville Road is just the beginning. The neighborhood's proximity to Interstate 77 and nearby business centers, its affordability compared to Charlotte, and its sizable green spaces, which provide ample recreational choices, all contribute to its appeal. This transitional neighborhood provides a rare quiet near the increasingly busy Queen City. Residents here can get lost in the beech grove trees of a dense nature preserve or pass the old farmhouses along the train tracks while enjoying the convenience of a well-connected location.
Uptown Charlotte is just over 10 minutes from the Nevin area.

Ribbonwalk Nature Preserve is the green heart of the neighborhood
Nevin Community is best known and frequently visited for the sprawling Ribbonwalk Nature Preserve at its heart. Megan Keul, the marketing coordinator for Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation Department, says that "Ribbonwalk Nature Preserve is a 188-acre urban forest containing wetlands, a hardwood forest, an American Beech grove, and two ponds. Irwin Creek Greenway runs through this location from walking and biking access." Nevin Community Park merges with the preserve in the west end, holding almost 200 acres of grassy land surrounding lighted ball fields and bocce ball courts. Nevin Community Park's large disc golf course regularly hosts spring tournaments. The wide strip of green spaces is walkable to most Nevin Community residents. These local fixtures attract more Charlotteans as green spaces become increasingly sparse in city-centric locations.
Disc golf is a popular sport at Nevin Park.

I-77 can take residents to Charlotte's business centers

University of North Carolina – Charlotte is 7 miles east of Nevin Community, and for more commutes, most residents hop on I-77 for a 6-mile ride into Uptown, Charlotte's business district.
