Sterling

A variety of living options
Sterling’s residential sections are sandwiched between businesses, undeveloped spaces and the interstate. Garages are uncommon, with some residents opting to park under carports instead. Sections of Longleaf Drive score nearly 100 on the Soundscore, meaning residents get levels of quietude that compare to the countryside and isolated outdoor spaces. Streets are lined with ranch-style, Colonial Revival and Cape Cod homes. Most were built in the 1970s and ‘80s, but New Traditional homes have been coming in consistently since the middle of the 2010s. The price for a detached home is usually between $230,000 and $330,000. There’s also a cluster of townhouses, condos and apartments on Sterling’s northeast end. Condo units sell in the low $200,000s. Townhouses usually fall between $250,000 and $300,000, but units with 2,000 square feet of space can surpass $400,000. The average home value in Sterling comes out to $275,000, which is almost half of Charlotte’s.Convenient to the interstate and the light rail
Interstate 485 is within a 2-mile drive of most homes. Residents are also right by two Lynx Blue Line light rail stations, each equipped with parking lots. Uptown Charlotte is about 10 miles north, and depending on traffic and one’s destination, locals might find the rail faster. Atrium Health Pineville hospital is just one exit down I-485. Sterling isn’t short on employers either, with sprawling industrial parks just across the interstate. “Westinghouse Boulevard has a lot of industrial facilities there, like granite fabrication places,” says Beth Belcher. “It’s got any type of industrial facility that you can think of.”Shopping, dining and a ton of cars
Carolina Pavilion is stocked with retailers such as Big Lots and Ross Dress for Less and a few fast-food restaurants. Over a dozen car dealers including Ford, Toyota and Nissan are up and down South Boulevard. For quick grocery runs, residents can head to the Harris Teeter east down Gleneagles Road or visit the Food Lion at Pineville Towne Market. Tortas, sopes, tacos and other Mexican and Central American favorites are on the menu at Costa Del Sol, with churros and flan for dessert. At Middle James Brewing, residents can enjoy craft beers, pub fare during happy hour and pop-up markets, trivia and live music on select dates.Staying active or chilling out in Sterling
For a scenic stroll, locals can easily access Little Sugar Creek Greenway from Sharon Road West. Alternatively, they can play a game of soccer or let their kids loose on the modern playgrounds at Ramblewood Park. There’s more family fun at Quail Hollow Club, a country club with an 18-hole course that has seen several PGA tournaments. Or, residents can kick back, relax and enjoy the latest films from reclining chairs at AMC Carolina Pavilion 22.Sterling’s successful schools
Most residents are within a 3-mile drive of a full pipeline of schools: Sterling Elementary, Quail Hollow Middle and South Mecklenburg High. Sterling Elementary and Quail Hollow Middle receive a C and a C-plus from Niche, respectively. Niche awards South Mecklenburg High an A-minus along with ranking the public high school as the eighth best in Mecklenburg County. The school offers an extensive roster of Career & Technical Education classes such as drafting, culinary arts and biomedical technology.
