In the late 1800s, Moseley was a railroad stop in Chesterfield for trains carrying passengers and freight from the western foothills to the James River. Railroad companies needed a junction to put a post office to collect mail and a water tower to supply the engines so they purchased the land from a local man named William Moseley, which is how the town got its name. Today the area is a residential community and many of the neighborhoods were recently built as part of master-planned developments.

Many homes in Moseley were built within the last 20 years and developers are continuing to build new homes to meet demand. Traditional and Craftsman architecture are common in the area with builders focusing on creating designs that are both functional and inviting. Main Street Homes is an award-winning homebuilder that has built many communities in the area including Foxfield, Westerleigh and Cosby Village. Foxcreek and Magnolia Green are two established neighborhoods nearby. Homes in Moseley are situated on large lots and include neighborhood amenities like pools and clubhouses.

Golfers often join the Magnolia Green Golf Club where they can also enjoy amenities at the clubhouse, like an impressive aquatic center.
Local shopping malls have a mix of small businesses and restaurants alongside large chain grocery stories and pharmacies.
