Custom homes on generously large lots dot the county’s country roads, while more traditional single-family housing still gives residents room to breathe. Many of the homes are architectural hybrids, featuring the multiple dormers of the Cape Cod style and the distinctive symmetrical windows of the Colonial Revival Style. Some homes feature both. Ranch-style homes are prevalent as well, with their horizontal designs specifically suited to a rural community. The median sales price of homes in the county was $350,000 at the end of 2022, slightly lower than the state average.

Lake Chesdin and the Appomattox River, which form much of Chesterfield County’s border, offer additional outdoor recreation, and both are known as prime spots for fishing.
