Isolated neighborhood with lots of wildlife and land
The East Cheyenne neighborhood of HR Ranch offers a country Wyoming lifestyle with plentiful acreage surrounded by rolling prairies and ranches. Retail, restaurants and nightlife are far away, but the neighborhood's isolation and privacy are what makes it attractive in the first place. Team leader and broker at Our323 Team Patrick Graham lived in downtown Cheyenne before moving to the HR Ranch area two years ago. "It's quiet, peaceful, and nice to not be on top of one another," he says. "I have a lot of toys, and the 1,000-square-foot garage stores all that." People like the space between homes and the tight-knit community; neighbors look out for one another. "Come Christmas time, everyone brings cookies. It's something in the past that I didn't get in the city," says Graham. The neighborhood earns a CAP crime score of 1 out of 10, the lowest rating possible and three points below the national score of 4.

Ranch-style homes situated on up to 50 acres
HR Ranch is known for its expansive acreage and privacy. When folks drive around the area, they’ll see farm animals and lots of open land. "When I'm out there, I'm completely unplugged and there's no light pollution," Graham says. "There's all kinds of wildlife, deer, antelope; I've had a mountain lion in my yard." Properties were built after the 1990s and often have two-car garages, long driveways and sheds. Most homes are craftsman and contemporary ranches with more than three bedrooms, spanning 2,000 square feet. "The smallest [lot] is around 2.5 acres and the largest is 50 acres. The people with the larger acreage can have livestock, like horses," Graham says. "My property is six acres -- I can't have livestock." Prices can range from $600,000 for less than three acres to $1,200,000 for properties with more land. The neighborhood is prone to wildfires.

"Most of it is dirt roads, but parts of it are paved." Residents take advantage of their acreage and wildlife by hunting in their backyards. "I've sat on my dining room table and watched people hunt for deer and geese outside my back door," Graham adds. "There's something cool about seeing someone go out there and kill their dinner." Dirt bikers can take a spin on the tracks at the Laramie County Motorcross Park, 3 miles northwest. For target practice, the Laramie County Shooting Sports Complex is nearby.
