Residential Cheyenne neighborhood next to shopping and highways

Indian Hills is a suburban neighborhood known for its convenience. “It’s centrally located to amenities that are popular in Cheyenne,” says Steve Prescott, broker/owner at RE/MAX Capitol Properties. “It feels secluded and it’s quiet. They’re close to elementary, junior high and high schools.” Ranches and other one-story homes sit on flat suburban streets, behind small, tidy lawns. The neighborhood has several trails, and bikers can ride from the neighborhood to Lions Park, which is beloved by Cheyenne locals. Wyoming’s busiest road, Dell Range Boulevard, forms the neighborhood’s southern border and is lined with many restaurants and retail stores. Besides its location, people also choose Indian Hills for its modest homes at prices comparable to other parts of the city.

Mid-century homes with quiet ambiance

Indian Hills resembles a typical suburb, with single-family homes lined up behind moderate-sized front lawns and landscaping. “Indian Hills has homes from the ‘50s to the ‘70s, and they’re all different,” Prescott says. “It’s the kind of neighborhood where generations that buy there tend to stay.” Common styles include ranches and bi-level homes, which span at least 1,200 square feet and usually come with one-to-two-car garages. Prices can range from $275,000 for a two-bedroom home to $515,000 for a four-or-five bedroom home.

Home to Smalley and Mylar parks

Smalley Park sits along the curvy Melton Street; here, folks can play volleyball and basketball. Next door is Mylar Park, which has a disc golf course, play areas and hiking and biking paths overlooking Dry Creek. These paths segway into the Cheyenne Greenway. “One thing that Cheyenne is super proud of is the over 42 miles of Greenway trail,” says Jim Walter, director of marketing at Visit Cheyenne and city resident. “It’s in just about every neighborhood, and [people] traverse it together.” Right next to Indian Hills is Lions Park, the city’s most popular park. Throughout the vast city park, locals can exercise on several trails and biking paths, and kids can run around in the multiple playgrounds, splash around in the pool areas or practice their putts at Putt Hutt Miniature Golf. Sloan Lake in the center of the park is a popular spot for canoeing or paddling, and at the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, visitors can explore hundreds of plant species. Golfers can test their swings at Airport Golf Club, an 18-hole public course. For rainy days, residents can head to Roller City or Two Bar Bowl for an afternoon of bowling or roller skating.

Coyote Ridge Elementary opened in 2024 for fifth and sixth-grade students; it’s unrated on Niche. These schools are within a mile of most Indian Hills homes. McCormick Junior High teaches seventh and eighth-grade students, earning a B-minus grade, and Central High School earns a B. The high school has the oldest Army JROTC program west of the Mississippi.

3 miles to Cheyenne Frontier Days

Cheyenne Frontier Days is the city’s most popular and largest event, and it’s 3 miles from the neighborhood. Considered the world’s largest rodeo, the annual event can triple the city’s population of 65,000 throughout its ten-day run. Festival-goers can witness some of the world’s best cowboys compete in rodeos and bull-riding events. Some other popular events include the pancake breakfast, carnival rides and concerts. “They've been mixing it up the last couple of years and trying different artists. They brought Machine Gun Kelly in this year, and the next night was T-Pain and Ludacris,” Walter says.

Highway 219 reaches Downtown Cheyenne and interstates

Wyoming Highway 219 connects to U.S. Route 85, which heads straight into downtown Cheyenne. Interstate 25 is a north-south highway that reaches Fort Collins, Colorado and Casper, Wyoming. Cheyenne Regional Airport is south of the neighborhood, offering two daily flights to Denver. Because airport operations are relatively quiet, noise is not an issue in Indian Hills.
