Rural suburb 9 miles from downtown Cheyenne
Ranchettes is a large suburb that embraces its rural and farmland ambiance 9 miles from downtown Cheyenne. Residents here get lots of acreage, minimal traffic and privacy. This suburb trades in the sounds of multiple passing cars for farm animals and the blistering winds. “The Ranchettes are very popular because it's more of a lifestyle,” says Steve Prescott, broker/owner at RE/MAX Capitol Properties. “People that move here want more room, which is why it’s so desirable.” Despite its rural location, residents can access Cheyenne and other metro cities with Interstate 25 to the west side.

Larger homes on 5-acre plots
Ranchettes embodies the rural lifestyle having dirt roads, open land and coast to coast city views. The area is not sprawling with sidewalks, planted trees or traffic lights. When buyers drive along the roads, they may spot a tractor or a horse from one of the farms. Most residents will receive privacy and peace as many homes are sporadically placed. “People here have elbow room because they're on five-acre tracks. It’s anywhere from about three to five acres,” Prescott says. “Your home is on this land; you have all this room, and no one's right on top of you.” Lots are often available for purchase for those wanting a custom home. Five-acre tracts can range from $115,000 to $240,000. Split-levels, newer craftsman, and ranch-style homes are also situated on five-acre plots with long private driveways and two or three-car garages. Prices can range from $475,000 for a home on 3 acres to $1.3 million for a home closer to city lines.

Summers are the most popular time as visitors participate in the trails, campsites and fishing opportunities. “A lot of people move here because of the recreation that’s available,” Prescott says. “We have some incredible mountain biking trails at the Curt Gowdy State Park, and people from out of state also say that.” Winter activities such as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are also available. The Vedauwoo climbing area is beloved for its challenging climbing routes on an oddly shaped 1.4 billion-year-old granite boulder. Lions Park draws hikers and bikers daily to its trails. Kids can run free in the playground or swim at the Cheyenne Aquatic Center. Cheyenne Botanic Gardens within Lions Park is a peaceful spot to walk around and admire the tropical plants and flowers.
