Newer neighborhood with Western feel
Saddle Ridge is one of Cheyenne’s newer neighborhoods, situated in an isolated location 6 miles from downtown. The master-planned area has a countryside feel, with views of the mountains and proximity to dirt roads and rural land, but it also feels suburban, with its new 21st-century homes and walkability to parks and schools. “What attracted me to the community was the part of the neighborhood we’re in was older and had kids my daughter’s age and professionals,” says Jim Walter, director of marketing and sales at Visit Cheyenne and Saddle Ridge resident. “But at the same time, down in the lower part of the neighborhood, you have a lot of younger kids."
It’s a peaceful suburb with quiet streets where neighbors walk their dogs down the well-paved sidewalks every day. Kids and their parents can also easily walk to the neighborhood’s synonymous school. “People are very friendly,” Walter says. “Often, I wish we had a bigger front porch, because people tend to talk to each other on their front porches.” It gets quieter in the winter, when winds that reach 50 to 60 miles per hour keep people inside. But what remains strong year-round is community support. “People help out each other,” Walter says. “My first winter, I was out there, and people got their cars stuck, and I could see up the road. Myself and others would go down to help them.”

Modern farmhouses and contemporary homes
Saddle Ridge has different types of homes to suit the needs of different buyers. “In Saddle Ridge, there’s single-family homes, twin homes and now they just finished 330 apartments, and they’ve got two more of those to do,” says Brenton Leavitt, associate broker at RE/MAX Capitol Properties. “People move out there because it’s new and affordable. It’s more planned; it’s not as random as down in the city.” Modern farmhouses and contemporary homes often come with two to three-car garages. Neighbors decorate their lawns depending on the season and plant flowers. “It’s a clean neighborhood. A lot of the residents take care of their lawns.” Walter says, “There are people around the neighborhood all the time.” Townhouses cost from $330,000 to $460,000. Single-family homes range from $440,000 for a one-story to $640,000 for a five-bedroom home. “We’re only 15 minutes from downtown and still in the city. We get the services of trash, water and sewer,” Walter says.

Locally-owned establishments over 2 miles away
While the neighborhood is isolated from the rest of the city, some nearby popular establishments have loyal followings. Dazbog Coffee draws crowds through its doors and drive-thru all day long. Its cozy interior makes it a popular spot for group meetups or coffee by the fireplace. T-Joe’s Steakhouse and Saloon serves steak and cocktails in a Western-inspired dining room with wooden walls and paintings of horses. Tucked in the corner of a strip mall is Pour Decisions Bar and Grill, a laid-back veteran-owned establishment where servers are friendly to newcomers and regulars. Its dining room is decorated with Denver Broncos and University of Wyoming Cowboys décor, and its menu features comfort dishes like burgers and prime rib. Folks can pick up Dell Range Boulevard towards the northern edge of the neighborhood for shopping. Groceries are available at King Soopers. Additionally, Walmart Supercenter and Target are a few miles west. The Frontier Mall is also in the same direction with more than 50 stores and restaurants, including Bath & Body Works and JCPenney.

Hiking and biking trails around Saddle Ridge Park
Saddle Ridge Park is a community gathering spot where people exercise. Picnic tables and grills sit beside its large open fields, and kids can run free in the playground. Residents wave and greet each other as they take their dogs for walks along the trails. The Cheyenne Greenway provides more than 45 miles of hiking and biking trails through the city. “The Greenway Trail runs through the neighborhood,” Walter says. “That’s attractive to me because me and my family like to walk and ride our bikes.” Curt Gowdy State Park is 30 miles west. Visitors can mountain bike on its 50 miles of trails or set up a camp at one of its several campgrounds. During the winter months, people can go cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on the trails.

Pershing Boulevard links to downtown Cheyenne
Residents are 6 miles from downtown Cheyenne, home to many employers, including the state government offices. Drivers can use Pershing Boulevard to reach the city center. “For the majority of the city, getting anywhere takes 10 to 15 minutes,” Leavitt says. While Pershing Boulevard is one of the city's busier roadways, it doesn't accumulate too much traffic. “For only about 10 minutes around 5 p.m., you have more traffic than normal, but it dies quickly," Leavitt adds. Cheyenne Regional Airport is 5 miles away; two flights per day provide service to Denver.
