Residential area next to Lake Michigan
Situated in the Uptown District, Clarendon Park is a residential neighborhood that has access to Montrose Beach along Lake Michigan. To the west, residents are also within walking distance to plenty of shopping and dining opportunities. “It’s a hidden secret – the neighborhood is quiet and quaint,” says Real Estate Agent Jennifer Lane with @properties Christie’s International Real Estate, who has almost 20 years of experience and is an Uptown resident.
Multi-unit properties in Uptown
The most common housing types for Clarendon Park are condominiums and duplexes, with most of the buildings being vintage brick Chicago-style flats. Many were built in the early to mid-1900s and have remained well-maintained or undergone interior renovation while preserving the historic exteriors. These properties typically range in price from $330,000 to $800,000, depending on size and number of bedrooms. Some of the more modern complexes can get as low as $145,000 for a single bedroom with 750 square feet. “There’s a little bit of something for everyone, and it’s all affordable housing,” Lane says.

A beach, marina and sports fields galore
Despite Chicago’s urban geography, Clarendon Park has a natural landscape that creates plenty of opportunities for outdoor fun. Following along the Lake Michigan waterfront, Montrose Beach lets residents sunbathe in the sand or go for a swim. Use the boat ramp to go kayaking or canoeing along the Lake Michigan Water Trail. “There are a lot of recreational sports that happen along the lake. There’s volleyball, flag football and various neighborhood clubs,” Lane says. There’s also a dog park in the area for those with furry friends and the Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary that protects wildlife. Anyone with a boat can dock at the Montrose Harbor. For recreation both indoors and out, head to the Clarendon Community Center at Lincoln Park. There are baseball and softball fields, basketball courts and a skate park. Additionally, the fieldhouse has a fitness center and gymnasium free for use. A turf field sits at the bottom of Cricket Hill, which is used for sledding in the winter.
