A good thing in a small package
A small, tightly packed neighborhood of high-rise apartments and low-rise condos, Dearborn sits tucked in the heart of Chicago. It’s an affordable area given the location and is well-served by public transportation. Coupled with major expressways directly west and north, it makes Dearborn a commuter-friendly spot. Lake Michigan is just a few blocks east and provides weekend enjoyment, with parkland running up and down the shoreline, while not too far to the south the White Sox swing away at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Getting out and around with plenty of options
Sitting at the confluence of Route 90, Route 55, and the Dan Ryan Expressway, Dearborn has quick access to routes that take drivers throughout the region. However, for many residents, the walkable and bikeable nature of the neighborhood is a draw. Buses run along State Street slicing down the middle of Dearborn, while the Cermak—McCormick L stop – a handsome, modernized station – provides access to the Green Line only a few blocks north. O’Hare International Airport is a 20-mile drive, however public transport provides an easy, direct route. Residents are confident knowing that emergency services are only a block away at Insight Hospital and Medical Center.

No single-family homes to be found
Dearborn is a tightly packed area, and much of the neighborhood is dominated by the Dearborn Homes apartment complex. “You’ll see a lot of low-rise condominiums or lofts here that offer larger style living,” says Realtor Wendy Lee of Exit at Home Realty. “These are spacious units but less expensive compared to other areas nearby.” Some of these are in repurposed and updated turn-of-the-century industrial spaces merging wood and stone, while others are in modern conventional buildings featuring brick fronts and contemporary granite kitchens. Smaller lofts and condos will generally go in the range of $200,000 to $300,000, while large condos or condos with top-level views will fetch $450,000 and up.
