Greystones steal the show along with condos and Queen Anne-style townhouses
While condominiums and luxury apartment complexes are common in Lakeview, single-family homes are abundant along the neighborhood's tree-lined streets. Chicago's famous brown and greystones — some more than a century old — steal the show while townhouses with Queen Anne elements are also plentiful. "Lakeview's got a very diverse housing stock. There's a lot of rentals, there's a lot of million-dollar condos and there's a lot of high-end single-family homes," Goldberg says. "In Lakeview East, you're kind of close to the water and you get those high-rise condos. And then as you go west, it gets really 'neighborhoody,' but it's very, very desirable." Smaller, older homes often price between $600,000 and $900,000, while larger properties with five or more bedrooms and updated appliances can range between $1 million and $2 million. Lakeview's housing market is competitive with many homes selling within two to four weeks.Margaret Donahue Park is a haven for young Cubs fans
Lakeview contains several small pocket parks. After school, parents take the kids to South Lakeview Park for playdates while the Chicago Cubs-themed Margaret Donahue Park, which sits half a mile from Wrigley Field, contains a splash pad and jungle gyms amid the iconic red, white and blue Cubs crest. Locals can also travel a mile east to jog or bike along the scenic Lakefront Trail, which spans over 18 miles along the shores of Lake Michigan.Lake View High School offers a wealth of extracurriculars
Lakeview students are served by City of Chicago School District 299. Children from prekindergarten through Grade 8 may attend Blaine Elementary School, which earns an overall grade of A-minus from Niche, before moving on to Lake View High School on North Ashland Avenue. Earning a B-minus Niche grade, the high school offers a host of extracurricular clubs and organizations including the National Honor Society and the Art for Social Justice Club. The A-rated Hawthorne Scholastic Academy — a literacy magnet school serving kindergarten through Grade 8 — is another option on North Clifton Avenue.Locals celebrate local artists at the annual Southport Art Fest
Lakeview is community-driven and features a host of festivals and public events. The annual Southport Art Fest is a two-day celebration of the arts right outside the historic Music Box Theatre on Southport Avenue while the Lakeview Taco Fest, which is also held on Southport, features live entertainment, a smorgasbord of taco dishes and even public wrestling matches. The "L" features a stop on Southport Avenue
Lakeview is walkable, bikeable and offers excellent public transportation options. The CTA bus features numerous stops throughout the neighborhood, and the "L's" Brown Line includes a station on Southport Avenue. Residents commuting by car can get downtown by heading a mile east and merging onto Route 41, though traffic can get very heavy during rush hour.Crosby's Kitchen is revered for its Midwestern-influenced comfort foods
Lakeview’s Southport corridor is known for its acclaimed restaurants. Crosby's Kitchen offers Midwestern-influenced comfort foods while Little Goat Diner is a top brunch spot. For a slice of Chicago's iconic deep-dish pizza, Giordano's is stationed on West Belmont Avenue at Lakeview's southside. A mile south, the Michelin-starred Galit is another favorite for its Middle Eastern entrees. Locals can also meet at Guthries Tavern to play board games while sipping on a local craft beer. Residents gather ingredients for home-cooked meals from the Whole Foods on North Ashland Avenue, though additional shopping and dining options can be found along North Southport Avenue, which is lined with locally owned boutiques and eateries.
