A railroad stop turned residential
Starting out as a small railroad crossing in the mid-1800s, Park Manor is now a quiet residential community about 11 miles south of downtown Chicago. Bordered by train tracks in the east, the area began as a magnet for small businesses seeking the patronage of railway travelers. Residents no longer rely on the train to take them downtown, though, as they can easily drive using Interstate 94 or the Chicago Skyway Toll Bridge, which border the neighborhood.
Bungalows abound amongst other home styles
Park Manor has approximately 260 historic Chicago-style brick bungalows built between 1915 and 1927 situated throughout the neighborhood. Detached, multi-story brick homes and row houses are common, with apartments generally located toward the northern borders. The neighborhood's average listing price is just over $200,000, but homebuyers will find some three-bedroom fixer-uppers in need of major renovations having price tags of less than $70,000. Additionally, Park Manor is widely walkable due to its well-lit sidewalks.
