A small suburb in Northwest Chicago
Schorsch Village is an established suburb with an eclectic collection of single-family homes and an active community center dating back to the mid-1900s. “We bought our home here in 1996, and I’d say this is one of the few communities in the Chicago area that has really tried to continue a relationship among the neighbors that live here,” says Edward Gjertsen, a longtime resident and Executive Director of the Schorsch Village Improvement Association. “We publish a newsletter every three months and hold neighborhood functions throughout the year, so you’ve really got the opportunity to become involved. It’s walkable, it’s livable, the schools are great and it’s just a vibrant community.” Tucked away in the northwest corner of Chicago, the neighborhood offers a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of city living.
Schorsch Village is approximately 11 miles away from downtown Chicago.

Traditional single-family homes and newer condos
After purchasing 120 acres of land in 1916, the Albert J. Schorsch and Company built a diverse collection of bungalows, Cape Cod and brick Tudor-style homes that are now known as Schorsch Village. Many of these original homes remain standing today, with prices ranging from around $350,000 for a three-bedroom bungalow to around $500,000 for a four-bedroom English-style Tudor. “Virtually every home is different from the home next to it,” Gjertsen says. “They’re built to last a lifetime.” Condos line the outskirts of the community, with two-bedroom units starting at about $200,000.
Craftsman style bungalows are found throughout Schorsch Village in a variety of styles.

Interstate 90 is about 4 miles north, making it easier for locals to traverse the 12 miles to downtown Chicago. The Chicago Transit Authority provides local bus service to the community, with several stops along Harlem Avenue.

The fieldhouse features an indoor swimming pool, fitness center and gymnasium. The park also has a variety of outdoor sports courts, including ballfields, tennis courts and a soccer field. Kids can also explore the playground and splash pad. “We also have an annual golf outing at the Indian Boundary Golf Course, which is a really nice course about 5 minutes from the neighborhood.”
