Scottsdale has convenience and community in the Chicago area
With brick homes, compact lots and multiple community parks, Scottsdale has more of a suburban setting than many Chicago neighborhoods. You have homes that are close to schools, everyday shopping and a range of restaurants. It's easy to reach with the nearby expressway, and you can take buses or the train to get around. Neighbors also catch up during annual events at the local parks, so you get convenience and a community atmosphere in Scottsdale.
Prices range from entry-level condos to single-family houses
Single-family homes fill Scottsdale, and brick bungalow and ranch-style homes are the most common options. The properties have compact lots with detached garages and short paved driveways. Many of the properties were built around the late 1950s through the 1970s, and they can sell from around $200,000 to around $400,000. There are a few condos as well, and they can sell from around $20,000 to the upper $100,000s. “That community is very rare because it gives the feel of a suburb," says Tish Herrera, Realtor with Baird & Warner Gold Coast. "It gives a balance of [a] suburb with the schools, restaurants; people flock over there. Those houses go [quickly] because it’s like an encapsulated area."

Scottsdale residents shop and dine on Pulaski Road and Cicero Avenue
Most restaurants and stores are on Cicero Avenue and Pulaski Road. The options range from national brands to locally owned businesses. So when you want to dine out, you might try:
Hangry Cluck, a local fast-food option that serves Nashville-style hot chicken
Asia Buffet & Grill, an all-you-can-eat spot with Chinese dishes, sushi and grilled items
Vito & Nick's Pizzeria, a no-frills spot known for cracker-thin crust tavern-style pizza
When it comes to shopping, the Scottsdale Shopping Center has restaurants and a Lowe's. You might get groceries across the street at the Jewel-Osco or down the street at Aldi. Some people take a short drive down Cicero Avenue to shop at Target in Bedford City Square or shops like Old Navy in the old Ford City Mall center.

Three parks full of space to play sports and enjoy the outdoors
There are three main parks within the neighborhood. Rainey (Edward) Park is in the northern part of the area, and the park's walking path goes by the tennis courts, playground and multipurpose fields. There's even a sand volleyball court near the recreation building. Durkin (Martin) Park has similar amenities, and it's close to Dunkin Park Elementary. Scottsdale Park is the smallest of the three, but it can get busy because of the fitness center and recreation programs. Year-round programs include youth sports, arts and crafts and music lessons.
Families in Scottsdale might take their kids to Rainey Park's playground.

For rail commuters, the nearby Ashburn station uses the Metra's SouthWest Service line, which runs to Union Station in downtown Chicago. Chicago Midway International Airport is a short drive away.
