Bond Hill
Suburban Neighborhood in Cincinnati, Ohio
Hamilton County 45216, 45229, 45237

Vernacular homes, Tudor Revivals and more
Local artisans and residents built Bond Hill's homes along streets laid out in a grid. Given this, no two houses are the same here. While they do not fit into a distinctive architectural category, there are some common characteristics. These vernacular properties are predominately two-story constructions, many featuring porches and Italiante-influenced characteristics. The housing scene shifted in the 1920s as Tudor Revivals and bungalows began to pop up throughout the community. Towards the midcentury, classic styles like Cape Cods were built, but development slowed down throughout these later decades. While there are some newer homes now, these are few and far between. Pricing primarily depends on the home's age, size and location. Older homes typically sell for anywhere between $100,000 and $350,000, while newer developments can cost anywhere from $350,000 to $400,000.New establishments and an urban farming nonprofit
Like much of the community, Bond Hill's commercial scene is changing. "I noticed a few different businesses that are getting ready to come here," Davis says. Bigby Coffee recently brought a drive-through location here, and "a small grocery store on California Avenue is about to open." Davis says. "The Bond Hill Market is going to be a game changer since there isn't really a close place to get groceries right now." As for fruits and vegetables, the local nonprofit Brick Gardens is working to make fresh produce more accessible to the community through The Bond Hill/Roselawn Garden. This urban garden is currently expanding; additional plant beds and fruit trees are expected to come in the near future. The community boasts a couple of options for dining out, including Just Cookin' BBQ. Here, patrons enjoy soul food classics like mac and cheese, yams and oxtails. There's also a Hook Fish & Chicken location here. For dessert, locals can check out Davis Cookie Collection. "A lot of people that live nearby walk here for cookies, ice cream sandwiches and milkshakes," Davis says. And for other options, many people here head to Norwood, an adjacent community.Cincinnati City School District
For prekindergarten through sixth grade, students can enroll in Bond Hill Academy, which receives a C-minus rating from Niche. The school boasts the Math and Science Discovery Program, which focuses on problem-solving skills in both subject areas. The academy will soon receive a STEM lab and upgrades to the outdoor classroom through the makeover project. For Grades 7 through 12, many students attend A-plus-rated Walnut Hills High. Here, they can pick from 30 AP courses and over 90 sports, including archery, rugby and gymnastics. The school is highly regarded nationwide; it even received the prestigious National Blue Ribbon Award in 2023.New recreational facilities and updates to community staples
There are a lot of new recreational amenities here, including the Bond Hill Community Center's pickleball courts. At the center, locals hit the gym or meet up with friends for basketball games. The nearby Bond Hill Park becomes especially popular when the pool opens in the summer. The park will benefit from the community makeover project, as the ball fields will receive updates. The neighborhood isn't far from the Cincinnati Reds Youth Academy, which offers free baseball and softball training for local children. For other options, the community boasts smaller green spaces like Hunter Park, where locals can enjoy a picnic on the grassy expanse while children have fun on the playground. Those who spend their days hitting the greens can purchase a membership at the Maketewah Country Club, which boasts an 18-hole golf course.Important to know: Commutes, employers and more
While some residents use Metro buses, many drive to get around. Bond Hill is conveniently bordered by Interstate 75. Residents can take this major thoroughfare to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, which is about 21 miles away. They can take that same route to downtown Cincinnati, which is about 9 miles away. Some residents work downtown, but many are employed by local or nearby manufacturing companies like DyStar. Prospective residents should be aware that the area around the company is classified as a Superfund site by the EPA. Other employment options in the community have only risen. The neighborhood is home to a newer Mercy Health location that has brought about 1,500 jobs to Bond Hill. As for nearby healthcare institutions, the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and the UC Medical Center are both just under 5 miles away.Community involvement: Focus groups, events and more
Bond Hill boasts several volunteer council committees, including one focused on beautification and another on safety. The community’s overall crime score on the CAP Index is 5 out of 10, higher than the national average of 4. However, residents are working to implement more cameras, speed bumps and foot patrol officers. Another committee works on youth education, focusing on career readiness, substance use and more. There is also a communications committee committed to promoting neighborhood events. The Church of the Resurrection hosts many of these gatherings, including a Martin Luther King Day celebration. It also offers Jazz on the Lawn every Saturday in the summer, bringing the community together with funky tunes and food. This Catholic church is more than a gathering place. "We hold the Bond Hill Food Pantry on Wednesdays," says Father Patrick Sloneker. "Lots of the community comes and receives food aid." The pantry will receive upgrades through the community makeover project.
