How Bond Hill blends historic character and everyday access

Bond Hill is a historic neighborhood on Cincinnati's north side, where community traditions and local jobs meet a central, highway-connected location. Streets here are lined with a mix of architectural styles, offering buyers a broad range of price points and plenty of character. Green space and a handful of local businesses sit alongside newer public investment, while nearby highways keep the rest of the city within easy reach.

What types of homes make up the local housing market

Most of what you'll find in Bond Hill is historic single-family homes, including Tudor Revivals, Colonial Revivals and bungalows. Much of the neighborhood's housing stock dates to the early decades of the 20th century, with features like hardwood floors and front porches still found throughout the area. Houses in need of renovation have sold for under $100,000, while fully updated period homes and some newer construction have reached the low $400,000s.

Multifamily properties are also part of the local housing mix. Duplexes, quadplexes and other small apartment buildings, many adapted from older structures, are found throughout the neighborhood and have recently sold from the low $200,000s to the low $500,000s. Condos and townhouses are less common, with many concentrated in newer developments near East Seymour Road. Recent sales of those units generally ranged from the high $100,000s to the low $300,000s.

Highways and transit connect Bond Hill to key jobs

Getting around Bond Hill is straightforward, with Interstate 75 and the Norwood Lateral Expressway running through the area. Drivers can take the highway or follow surface streets like Reading Road south to downtown Cincinnati, about 8 miles away. Depending on the route and time of day, that ride runs about 15 to 20 minutes.

The same highways make for quick trips to other big employers, including GE Aerospace's Evendale campus to the north and the hospitals and university in Uptown to the south. Bond Hill is also a place people commute to, not just from, anchored by a business district and Hamilton County's new Central Campus.

For those who prefer transit, Metro's Route 43 runs along Reading Road, connecting the neighborhood to downtown and suburbs to the north.

Outdoor recreation in Bond Hill with parks, courts and a pool

Bond Hill's main recreation area sits in one spot, pairing park space with sports facilities and community programming. The Bond Hill Recreation Center has a full-size gym, multipurpose room and teen lounge, while the adjoining park offers a playground, basketball and tennis courts, a walking path and a renovated baseball field. A seasonal outdoor pool gives residents another option once the weather warms up. Nearby, Hunter Park in Norwood adds a dog park and extra play space.

For golfers, Bond Hill is also home to Maketewah Country Club, a private, Donald Ross-designed course that hosts the Kroger Queen City LPGA Championship.

Cincinnati Public Schools offers multiple enrollment paths

Students in Bond Hill can attend Bond Hill Academy, their neighborhood school, or apply to other Cincinnati Public Schools programs through the district's school choice process. One of those options is Walnut Hills High School, a highly rated, selective college-preparatory school.

Bond Hill has a handful of local dining options, with additional restaurants nearby in surrounding neighborhoods. Just Cookin BBQ serves barbecue and soul food staples, while Brunch De Lux serves elevated brunch plates and coffee. For dessert, locals can stop by Davis Cookie Collection. "A lot of people who live nearby walk here for cookies, ice cream sandwiches and milkshakes," says owner Tina Davis.

Recent commercial openings reflect ongoing investment in the neighborhood. "It's definitely an up-and-coming area," Davis says. "There's a lot of great changes, and seeing newer businesses interested in the area tells you where it's heading." Most residents drive for daily errands, though some nearby restaurants, shops and community spots are within walking or biking distance. For a fuller range of dining and shopping, many head to neighboring Norwood, which has a Kroger. Save A Lot is also nearby in Roselawn.

BOND HILL got its name from an early settler name BOND who had a wood mill from clearing trees in the area. People from what's now NORWOOD & ST. BERNARD walked (UP) BOND'S hill to get wood. Over time, BONDS HILL, then BOND HILL stuck.

What I like about Bond Hill is that mostly everyone is friendly but what I dislike is that there can be some issues such as drug dealing. I would like to see a change in patrolling the area.
