A unique housing scene
In Mount Lookout, many homes sit on a fifth of an acre, flanking sloping streets lined with sidewalks and trees. Styles range from quaint 1920s cottages with hanging flower baskets to classic Tudor Revivals with half-timbering decorative elements. Craftsman bungalows, Vernacular Victorians, Cape Cods and Colonial Revivals are also popular here. There are also some newer homes here, but these are limited. Smaller, older homes typically range from $300,000 to $450,000, while older homes with larger floorplans cost between $500,000 and upwards of $1 million. Newer homes go for anywhere between $800,000 and upwards of $1.4 million. Buyers will find that Mount Lookout receives a CAP Index Crime Score of 3 out of 10, compared to the national average of 10.Ault Park and other nearby recreational opportunities
Stretching across 200 acres, Ault Park is one of the neighborhood's leading attractions. "In the summer evenings, we have picnics at the park. Everyone brings snacks and sparkling waters, and we pick up pizzas from a local pizzeria on the drive to split," says Frannie Miller, who lived in Cincinnati for several years. "Sitting on our blankets in the grass, we have the perfect view of people — young couples, old couples, parents with their children running around." In the spring, people from all over the city come to Ault Park to see over 1,000 weeping cherry blossoms at their prime. Nearby, Otto Armleder Memorial Park features a dog park, soccer fields and walking trails. It also boasts access to the Little Miami River, making it a go-to spot among canoers and kayakers alike. For golfers, the 18-hole Reeves Golf Course is less than 2 miles away and is open to the public.Cincinnati City School District District and a private schooling option
Children can enroll in the Cincinnati City School District, which is known for its choice enrollment options. They can start their educational journeys at Kilgour Elementary, which receives an A-minus rating from Niche. As a Community Learning Center, the school offers everything from health services to youth development activities. For Grades 7 through 12, many students head to B-rated Clark Montessori High. The Cincinnati Observatory holds a variety of events throughout the year, like ScopeOut, where astronomers educate the public about a variety of astronomical topics, and offer attendees a chance to try out their telescopes. Many of the community's other private and public events take place at Ault Park. "One evening, a wedding reception was taking place on the pavilion, and we watched it all unfold across the lawn," Miller says. In the summer, the park hosts a series of dance programs, and when September rolls around, the community gets ready for the annual Mount Lookout Fall Festival, held in the square. Here, children can try their hand at carnival games while live music entertains the crowd. The holiday season brings the annual Luminaria event. And on Light Up Night, paper bags glowing with lit tea candles line the sidewalks.Commutes to downtown Cincinnati and more
Downtown Cincinnati is 7 miles away, which equates to about a 20-minute car ride, or a 40-minute bus ride via Metro Line 28. The neighborhood's location also offers convenient commutes to major employeres like Procter & Gamble and the Great American Insurance Group. The Mount Lookout community is also near the University of Cincinnati and the UC Medical Center, which are about 5 miles away via the Columbia Parkway. This same route offers connections to the Cincinnati Children's Hospital, which is 6 miles away. For those days when folks need to travel, the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) is roughly 20 miles away via Interstate 71.Mount Lookout Square: A hub for entertainment and food
The cornerstone of the downtown area is The Redmoor, an Art Deco entertainment venue that has been hosting concerts and private events for nearly a century. Zip's Cafe, another longtime establishment, was honored in 2021 with the title of No. 1 burger in the state of Ohio, by Food & Wine magazine. Their burger recipe hasn't changed since 1926 and the cafe's miniature model train still runs, passing by customers, overhead. New to the neighborhood is VV The Italian Experience, a coffee shop serving pastries, paninis and more. For carry-out options, there's Ramundo's Pizzeria. Nearby, the rustic Mt.
