Westwood

Homes from the end of Gilded Age and early 20th century
Pines and sweetgums line the neighborhood’s blocks, and many homes here date back to the end of the Gilded Age and the first half of the 20th Century. Tudor-Revivals are common, but the neighborhood also has many Victorian-era cottages, Craftsman bungalows, Cape Cods, ramblers and Colonial Revivals. Single-family homes here can go from the upper $100,000s to $300,000, depending on size and style. There are also homes sold as investment and renovation opportunities, where prices can range from under $100,000 for a single-family home to well over $300,000 for a multi-family building.Coffee, burgers, beers and wines around Harrison and Epworth
Although there are dining options across the entire neighborhood, the area around Harrison and Epworth Avenues is turning into a new destination. The Fable Cafe serves breakfasts and lattes, which guests can enjoy from the comfort of the coffee shop’s antique furnishings. In addition to pastries and coffee, the Muse Cafe has a wine bar and hosts live music. The Nation Westwood serves burgers topped with smoked cheddar and Memphis-style barbecue. The restaurant also keeps firewood stocked for those who want to dine on their outdoor patio during the colder days. Those planning a date night or celebrating a special occasion can look to the Ivory House, an upscale steakhouse that also has desserts like ice-cream-topped cinnamon rolls. Craft beer fans can meet at West Side Brewing to try its many stouts and ales. Grocery shopping can be done at Kroger, Target and Walmart.Exploring the Mt. Airy Forest
Spanning nearly 1,500 acres, about half of the Mt. Airy Forest falls within the Westwood community. The park — the city’s largest — is a restored forest boasting a myriad of outdoor attractions. Hikers and bikers can explore the woods' miles of trail. Disc golf enthusiasts will find a course here, and dog owners let their pets stretch their legs at the park. Other notable attractions here include the Diehl-Unnewehr House, an 1830s-style home with arched masonry ceilings and a wine cellar. Everybody’s Treehouse is a literal treehouse that can be reached from a raised boardwalk. The Westwood Town Hall offers another outdoor site, where children enjoy the playground and surrounding greenery. For more activities in Westwood, there’s the Dunham Recreation Center with its 100-plus acres of sports fields.Second Saturdays and the new Westwood Farmers Market
The Westwood Town Hall hosts Second Saturdays, a festive gathering series that runs between June and August. The event features live music, hot dogs and bounce houses for children. The Westwood Farmers Market, established in 2024, runs from to May to October and occurs Thursday at the Westwood United Methodist Church. “It’s been a great addition, I love it. I get my fresh eggs, meat and veggies, all there,” says Julie Fletcher, the church’s office administrator. “What I love about that is supporting local families. It’s a nice feeling.” An important community event here is the Harvest Home Fair in nearby Cheviot. The fair occurs over several days in September and features a parade, rides attractions, vendor booths, a cornhole tournament, live music and art and flower shows.Access to the Montessori curriculum
