The unique neighborhood of Clackamas has more going for it than you might expect. It's an unassuming neighborhood that just happens to be in one of the most convenient locations in the South Portland suburbs. Some may see the community as little more than a waypoint between Happy Valley and Oregon City, or as the home of Camp Withycombe and the Oregon Military Museum, but local residents know Clackamas is a hidden gem. Highlights include convenient shopping and dining, as well as the abundant outdoor opportunities offered by the parks in the area.

Casual spots, from a sushi shop to a homestyle café and a pool lounge
As for dining options, Clackamas may not have the fanciest restaurants in greater Portland, but it has some of the tastiest. Akira Sushi has some of the best sashimi in the South Portland suburbs, or if you prefer your meals with a healthy dose of folksy charm, grab a patty melt at the always-popular Dean’s Homestyle Cafe — just be ready to wait a little while for a table to open up. Looking for something to wash it all down? You can grab a pint and pick up a pool cue at the Crow’s Nest Lounge.

Recreation on the river, mountain hikes and golfing
While Clackamas is primarily a business district, that doesn’t mean there aren’t outdoor and entertainment opportunities nearby. Riverside Park alongside the crystal-clear Clackamas River is the go-to local spot for cooling off on a hot summer day, as well as a great place to catch a steelhead trout. And those looking for something a bit more taxing can visit Mount Talbert Nature Park and enjoy its 4 miles of picturesque trails. For a more manicured outdoor experience, the local Sah-Hah-Lee Golf Course and Driving Range has 18 picture-perfect holes for serious golfers, along with a full minigolf course for kids and putt-putt enthusiasts.
