Clairton is made up of different smaller neighborhoods that offer both single-family and multifamily residential housing options to potential residents. Some neighborhoods consisting primarily of single-family homes are Wilson, Colonial Village, and Blair. Colonial Village was planned in a circular fashion and while the houses are older, they are in good condition and feature large lots with many including, if not most, garages. Some multifamily residential neighborhoods are Century Townhomes, New Town, and Southside. Century Townhomes consist of a mix of apartments and town houses, while New Town consists mostly of attached two-story town houses.
Clairton City School District consists of Clairton Elementary School and Clairton Middle/High School, all of which are housed in the same building in the community. The district runs like two separate schools, with the elementary school on the ground level of the school building and the upper two levels serving middle and high school students. The high school football team competes at a Class A level in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League.
The City of Clairton Park is an expansive public park in Clairton that has many amenities like a pool, basketball courts, baseball fields, and sand volleyball. There are shelters and lodges at this park that are available for rental. Rentals for these spaces are available all year long, and considerable care is given to the park to keep it clean and well maintained.
Clairton has some small chain stores in the area to help meet individual needs like Rite Aid and Dollar General. There are also mini marketplaces to quickly grab grocery essentials, but you will have to travel to nearby areas to get to larger chain stores.
There is a diverse selection of restaurants in the community, but most are smaller, locally owned businesses. Backstreet Burgers & Deli aims to bring some excitement to your taste buds with dishes like Blast Furnace Sriracha BBQ Burger and Blackened Atlantic Salmon. To add some variety to mealtime, you can check out New Golden Gate, a popular community Chinese restaurant.
When the weather permits, the Clairton Pool is in the City of Clairton Park and has an Olympic-sized pool with a water slide and a baby pool. Lifeguards are always on duty.
The Clairton Public Library is a Family Place Library which believes that literacy begins at birth and libraries can help build healthy communities. This library hosts weekly and monthly events to bring the community together including book clubs, Wisewalks, and storytimes. For a more diverse selection of events and larger festivals, locals drive to downtown Pittsburgh.
