The peak of countryside living outside Greensboro
Named for being a high point along the Atlantic and Yadkin Railway, the single-stoplight community of Climax sits 10 miles from Greensboro amidst sprawling farmlands and dense forests. "Most people here still own farms, and you’ll see lots of livestock all throughout,” says real estate broker Tonya Farlow-Bennett of PRICE Brokers, who has sold homes in the area. A peak in countryside living, Climax offers homes with large lots near nature preserves, fishing ponds and hunting grounds. “Overall, it's a nice, quiet rural community that’s just a short drive to Greensboro,” Farlow-Bennett says.

Climax’s ranch-styles and sprawling lots omes
In Climax’s scattered subdivisions, homes sit far from the sidewalk-free streets on sprawling, sparsely treed lots that can range from 1 acre to over 40 acres. Ranch-style homes from the 1950s through early 2000s are common here, and often feature brick or wood-plank exteriors, long driveways and spacious, manicured backyards that border the woods; these range from $115,000 for an older three-bed, one-bath to $300,000 for a newer three-bed, three-bath. Two-story New Traditional homes custom-built between the 1990s and 2010s feature a mix of vinyl, brick and stone siding, as well as dormer windows and asymmetrical gables; these start at $340,000 for a three-bedroom on a 1-acre lot and go up to $1.2 million for a five-bedroom on a 10-acre lot. Those who want to build a custom home can also find spacious lots filled with trees and dotted with small patches of open grass; a 1-acre lot sells for around $40,000, while those exceeding 40 acres can go for over $2 million.

Hagan-Stone Park and Blue Horizon Quail Preserve
Climax’s rolling hills and densely wooded areas make the township a natural playground. “There’s lots of ponds and lakes where people like to go fishing, and there’s also a few parks nearby,” Farlow-Bennett says. The 409-acre Hagan-Stone Park has nine unpaved trails that weave around forests of tall oaks, fishing ponds full of catfish and over 100 camp sites for tents and recreational vehicles. The Bradley’s Fun-for-All Playground at Hagan-Stone Park features a tire swing set and an elaborate rope jungle gym, and the aquatic center’s swimming pool has a tall waterslide operated by lifeguards.
At Blue Horizon Quail Preserve, both locals and visitors can go bird hunting on over 200 acres of farmland; afterward, they can rest up at the preserve’s rustic lodge, which features a front porch that looks out over fields of tall, dry grasses, surrounding trees and a fishing pond.
Hagan-Stone Park offers several fishing ponds where you might catch the big one.
