A small rural town between the six-mile stretch of Coatesville and Parkesburg, Pomeroy is embraced for its slow-paced atmosphere amid the farms and rolling hills of Sadsbury Township. “I’ve lived in just about every state, and there’s nothing quite like Pomeroy,” says Kevin Guido, owner of local restaurant PJ’s Deli, “It’s not laid out like a typical town. All the houses are unique to themselves. It’s also just a nice quiet community where everybody knows everybody.”
Pomeroy features a diverse mix of homes that span the 20th century into the early 2000s. You’ll find various single-family homes from the early-to-mid 1900s on quarter-acre lots ranging from $100,000 to $300,000. If you’re looking for a property with lots of land, you can get anything from a small ranch-style home to a larger colonial-style home with one-to-10 acres of hilly yard space. Depending on the size of the house and yard, you can expect to pay anywhere from $300,000 to $600,000. Pomeroy has two newer HOA developments, with homes built in the early 2000s. Springbrook Village features three-bedroom town houses with attached single-car garages that sell for around $250,000. Quarry Ridge has about 150 traditional single-family homes. Most offer around 3,000 square feet of living space and two-car garages, ranging from $400,000 to $500,000. The community also has a playground that kids can easily walk to.
For more outdoor fun, visit Bert Reel Park, which also has a playground, along with a basketball court, ball field and a pavilion with a fireplace where you can gather with friends and family for a special occasion.
Though you’ll find much of Pomeroy to be made up of dense woods and cornfields, a few local businesses reside at the leisurely T-intersection of Strasburg and Valley Roads. Stottsville Inn, a historic hotel, restaurant and bar, has been serving the community and its guests since 1858. Stop by for a burger or pizza and enjoy live music on the weekends or step on stage for open mic night every Wednesday. PJ’s Deli is just across the street, where you can get a cheesesteak and its famous sweet sauce. There are many more dining options in Parkesburg and Coatesville. For groceries and everyday needs, you can take a 4-mile drive to West Sadsbury Commons in Parkesburg to shop from big retailers like Walmart, The Home Depot and T.J. Maxx.
Students go to Rainbow Elementary and Scott Middle School, which Niche rates as the 20th and 8th most diverse elementary and middle schools in the state, The high school, which has a B rating from Niche, is ranked the 12th most diverse high school in the state. The high school has two campuses - one for 9th and 10th graders, and another for juniors and seniors.
With convenient access to U.S. Route 30, you can commute 25 miles west to Lancaster or 45 miles east to Philadelphia. Reading is also about 30 miles north. So, if you work in either of the three cities, you’re still within driving distance and located in a beautiful rural setting.
