Get out for some fresh air along Castlegate’s walking trails
Outdoor recreation is big in Castlegate, and it's common to see neighbors and fellow homeowners walking their dogs or going for a morning jog along the walking trails that are interwoven throughout the community. In addition to walking trails, the neighborhood boasts ample green space and two lakes that residents frequent for fishing or relaxing on a nice day. "There's even a group of people in the mornings who gather at the gazebo to do Tai Chi," says Heather Golladay, a Realtor with Century 21 Integra. Kids go to the neighborhood's namesake park to play pickup basketball and traverse the playground. Castlegate II's aquatic center has an outdoor pool, providing cool relief during the scorching summer months.Bring your best dish to the neighborhood potluck
Both subdivisions of Castlegate have homeowner's associations that arrange events throughout the year, whether it's a summer pool party or holiday celebrations. "We have a community center right on the pond that people rent out, and that's usually where they hold events. You also have your events in the cul-de-sac or on the street," Lewis says. These events include impromptu block parties or potlucks where residents will receive a flyer at their front door inviting them to cook their favorite meal to share with their neighbors. Residents adorn their homes with spooky decorations to bring in trick-or-treaters on Halloween.Excellent College Station ISD schools within walking distance
A majority of students in Castlegate walk or ride their bikes to school using paved walking paths specifically created to allow for safe travel away from major roads. Kids in Castlegate will attend Forest Ridge Elementary School, which earned an A-plus Niche grade, while students in Castlegate II attend A-rated Spring Creek Elementary School. College Station High School also has an A-plus Niche grade, boasting a 78% pass rate for AP exams along with an array of extracurricular activities for its student body.Traditional brick houses line quiet streets
Quiet residential roads are packed with single-family homes, and Castlegate's abundance of housing options is a big draw for potential residents. Traditional brick homes built throughout the 2000s dominate most of the housing landscape in both subdivisions and house prices are consistent with homes in the area, ranging between $330,000 and $650,000. There is a blend of rental properties around, but most of the homes are for sale. Homes in Castlegate tend to range between 3,000 and 5,000 square feet, whereas homes in Castlegate II can stretch from 5,000 to 7,000 square feet. Wide, sidewalk-lined streets are frequented by residents walking with their children or taking their pet on afternoon walks. "It's so friendly. If you're walking down the street people smile and wave, and there's pretty much always people walking around," Golladay says.
William Fitch Parkway and getting around College Station
When Castlegate residents are out and about, they can hop on William D Fitch Parkway, which leads to either Wellborn Road or State Highway 6. There isn't much public transportation around, and locals tend to drive to get around. Castlegate is just 8 miles from Texas A&M University and 13 miles from Bryan, which are both accessible using State Highway 6. Locals flying within the state are about 9 miles from Easterwood Airport, a regional airport offering commercial flights for United and American Airlines.Chow down at Casa Do Brasil and shop along State Highway 6
Fitch Parkway puts residents at the crossroads of Wellborn Road and Frontage 6 Road, both of which are lined with shopping centers and restaurants. The brunch crowd heads to Urban Table or Harvest Coffee on the weekends for filling breakfast plates. However, a quick drive down Wellborn Road will lead to Hullabaloo, which was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and has "pancakes the size of your face," Golladay says. A common recommendation from locals in the area for lunch is Casa Do Brasil, which serves skewered meats and an extensive salad bar. For a casual drink and an array of dressed hot dogs, The Angry Elephant is close by. Of course, H-E-B is also along Fitch Parkway for groceries and daily essentials.
