Close to downtown Colorado Springs, Knob Hill is a lively neighborhood surrounded by numerous parks, shopping, entertainment and cultural venues, restaurants and schools. The neighborhood is also home to two art galleries and an art education center. “We’re trying to show that Knob Hill is striving to be bigger and better,” says Muji Rieger, cofounder of the Knob Hill Urban Arts District, a local non-profit. “I hope we can become a certified arts district,” he says. “We want Knob Hill to be a place where residents can have unique experiences and enjoy the benefits of living in a thriving neighborhood.”

Residential homes in the midst of an art scene
Primarily built between the 1940s and the 1970s, Knob Hill homes range from modest national dwellings under 1,000 square feet to two-story Colonial Revival, bi-level, ranch-style and split-level homes that are around 1,500 to 2,000 square feet. The homes may list between $250,000 and $500,000, and many come with new flooring and updated kitchens and bathrooms. Most yards are around 7,000 and 8,000 square feet with minimal landscaping and leafy trees and shrubs scattered intermittently. Regional and community parks of Colorado Springs
Home to four pocket parks, the area’s Otis Park has a playing field and a playground area. Memorial Park borders the neighborhood with an ice-skating center, a skate park with a bicycle racing track, a sports center that is complete with baseball, football and soccer fields, tennis courts and an indoor pool. This expansive parkland also includes Prospect Lake, a popular destination for fishing, paddle boarding and swimming. Colorado Springs festivals
There is a variety of exciting events that happen throughout the year. In spring and summer, locals gather on Colorado Avenue and celebrate Territory Days with a three-day festival featuring craft booths and live music to commemorate the area’s history. Then in June, people march in solidarity at Alamo Square Park and cheer for the Pikes Peak Pride Fest. The city kicks off autumn with the annual Labor Day Lift Off, which is the largest hot air balloon festival in Colorado. In October, Arts Month comes in full swing with numerous exhibits, screenings, performances and workshops for all kinds of visual mediums. Cripple Creek Ice Festival takes residents to a winter wonderland with a grand display of ice sculptures and ice slides. Additional events include the First Friday Art Walks, the Fruitcake Toss, and the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race.

Navigating Colorado Springs
