Historic gold rush community
The story of Old Colorado City began in the 1850s with the Pikes Peak or Bust gold rush and continues today as a thriving arts district. Nearly 20 galleries along the famous Colorado Avenue display work from over 100 local artists. Old Colorado City’s first and current chapters couldn’t be more different, but this friendly, self-made community with a zest for life remains and invites residents to be part of its story.
Art walks, galleries and community events
Neighbors spend time along Colorado Avenue every single day. Galleries like Lucky Pig are open daily and sell fine art, artifacts and jewelry, but the First Friday ArtWalk is when local galleries see the most action. On the first Friday of each month, locals walk along the avenue and meet the local artists and artisans who created all the galleries’ items, watch live demonstrations and take advantage of special deals at small businesses like Heartshake Studios – known for art, gifts and home décor. Residents can also find local performers providing live entertainment on the outdoor stage at the weekly Farmer’s Market. Known as Colorado’s largest street fair, Territory Days commemorates Old Colorado City’s evolution since the Pikes Peak or Bust gold rush more than 150 years ago. Watch the Wildlyfe Fire Circus bring the heat, learn how to pan for gold and ride through Territory Days on the Airbound Express Train. Dozens of bands entertain throughout the annual three-day celebration while locals eat, drink and shop for handcrafted goods from hundreds of vendors.
During the First Friday Artwalk enjoy the several art galleries in Old Colorado City.

Celebrate special occasions at Jake and Tellys Greek Taverna, opened by two Greek brothers in 1997. Try one of their specials, like the Fish Cakes: oven-baked Norwegian salmon cakes served with lemon caper aioli. King Soopers will appease any grocery needs and is located one mile north.
