Historic gold rush community

The story of Old Colorado City began in the 1850s with the Pikes Peak or Bust gold rush and continues today as a thriving arts district. Nearly 20 galleries along the famous Colorado Avenue display work from over 100 local artists. Old Colorado City’s first and current chapters couldn’t be more different, but this friendly, self-made community with a zest for life remains and invites residents to be part of its story.

Restored homes and contemporary properties

Houses range from $300,000 to $800,000, with options including restored craftsmen built in 1900 to Contemporary new constructions. Cozy, historic craftsmen and cottages are most common and cap at $600,000, including up to four bedrooms and three bathrooms across 2,500 square feet. Homes will squeeze between next-door neighbors, but yards stretch far enough for residents to utilize the space. New Traditional Craftsmen and Contemporary homes start at $700,000 and can reach up to $950,000.

Minutes away from the mountains

Residents love Old Colorado City’s central location to several Colorado Springs outdoor destinations. Red Rock Canyon, Garden of the Gods and the Front Range is less than four miles away. Residents can head two miles down the road to Downtown’s Monument Valley Park for a packed day at the pool or playground. Back home, Bancroft Park sits in the middle of Colorado Avenue.

On the first Friday of each month, locals walk along the avenue and meet the local artists and artisans who created all the galleries’ items, watch live demonstrations and take advantage of special deals at small businesses like Heartshake Studios – known for art, gifts and home décor. Residents can also find local performers providing live entertainment on the outdoor stage at the weekly Farmer’s Market. Known as Colorado’s largest street fair, Territory Days commemorates Old Colorado City’s evolution since the Pikes Peak or Bust gold rush more than 150 years ago. Watch the Wildlyfe Fire Circus bring the heat, learn how to pan for gold and ride through Territory Days on the Airbound Express Train. Dozens of bands entertain throughout the annual three-day celebration while locals eat, drink and shop for handcrafted goods from hundreds of vendors.
