Southeast Colorado Springs community near Memorial Park
In southeast Colorado Springs, the neighborhood of Spring Creek offers affordability and proximity to Memorial Park, where Olympians and amateur athletes gather to exercise. “It is a less expensive community,” says Alan Arata, Real Estate Broker at Keller Williams Clients Choice Realty and longtime Colorado Springs resident. “There are some new builds in the community, but most of the homes are around 60 years old.” Spring Creek residences are close to the shopping and dining along South Circle Drive, and the nearby Family Success Center provides a range of assistance and resources, like free winter coats and a food bank. Locally-made popcorn at Colorado Kernels
“Spring Creek is located very close—less than 5 minutes—from the best gourmet popcorn store in the western U.S., in my opinion,” Arata says. Along South Circle Drive, Colorado Kernels offers a wide selection of flavors, from salt and vinegar to caramel apple. South Circle Drive also has other locally-owned restaurants like Yong’s Korean Kitchen, Amy’s Donuts and the Ice Cream Snack Shack. Amy’s bakes doughnuts inside a small white and pink building with a drive-thru; flavors include mocha coffee glaze and maple bacon jalapeno. For groceries and other essentials, shoppers can head to My BargainMart, Dollar Tree and Dollar General.

About 2 miles away, Memorial Park’s 150 acres contain Prospect Lake, popular for fishing and watersports. “Memorial Park is a pretty special place that sees a lot of locals exercising in the mornings and picnicking the rest of the day and on weekends,” Arata says. “It has a great fireworks show on the Fourth and a major balloon festival on Labor Day weekend.” The park’s 10,000-square-foot Velodrome is a U.S. Olympic cycling facility; it’s also open to the public for indoor skating and biking.
