Spring Creek
Single-family homes, condos and townhouses
Spring Creek's single-family homes have front and back yards and sit on wide streets, while townhouses and condos line narrow streets. These properties have compact green spaces, with room for rock gardens or a few shrubs outside front porches. Single-family homes generally cost between $300,000 and $600,000, while condos and townhouses range from about $220,000 to $400,000. Ranch-style homes built in the mid-1960s tend to fall on the lower end of the typical price range, while multi-story contemporary and New Traditional homes built in the 2010s are more expensive. Apartments make up nearly 40% of the residential landscape, and about 60% of residents in Spring Creek rent their homes.Locally-made popcorn at Colorado Kernels
“Spring Creek is located very close—less than 5 minutes—from the best gourmet popcorn store in the western U.S., in my opinion,” Arata says. Along South Circle Drive, Colorado Kernels offers a wide selection of flavors, from salt and vinegar to caramel apple. South Circle Drive also has other locally-owned restaurants like Yong’s Korean Kitchen, Amy’s Donuts and the Ice Cream Snack Shack. Amy’s bakes doughnuts inside a small white and pink building with a drive-thru; flavors include mocha coffee glaze and maple bacon jalapeno. For groceries and other essentials, shoppers can head to My BargainMart, Dollar Tree and Dollar General.Public schools in and around Spring Creek
Elementary and middle schoolers may attend Mountain Vista Community School, rated B-minus on Niche and located within the neighborhood. Harrison High, rated C-plus, has a traditional Mexican folklorico dance group called Ritmo y Sabor Hispano; the group includes 30 students and two teachers who dance at football games and after school.Surrounded by parks and Valley Hi Golf Course
Spring Creek doesn’t contain any parks, but it’s surrounded by several green spaces, including a golf course. Valley Hi Golf Course, a public 18-hole course, has served Colorado Springs since 1956. At Van Diest Park, locals can walk the paved path and play on the playground. Leon Young Sports Complex hosts Little League games; this expansive outdoor recreation area has eight baseball diamonds. About 2 miles away, Memorial Park’s 150 acres contain Prospect Lake, popular for fishing and watersports. “Memorial Park is a pretty special place that sees a lot of locals exercising in the mornings and picnicking the rest of the day and on weekends,” Arata says. “It has a great fireworks show on the Fourth and a major balloon festival on Labor Day weekend.” The park’s 10,000-square-foot Velodrome is a U.S. Olympic cycling facility; it’s also open to the public for indoor skating and biking.Getting around by bus and car
U.S. Highway 24 runs through Spring Creek, connecting drivers to Interstate 25, one of the state’s major north-to-south thoroughfares. Spring Creek is about 3 miles from UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central and 6 miles from Colorado Springs Airport. Buses stop throughout the neighborhood, transporting passengers to destinations along Capulin Drive, South Circle Drive and East Fountain Boulevard.
