Close to nature and downtown Colorado Springs
Stratton Meadows is one of the older communities in Colorado Springs that is a desirable part of town for its proximity to downtown and Colorado's great outdoors at a friendlier price. "You can see the mountains and have that mountain feel while being in a central location just a few minutes from downtown and the Nevada Corridor shopping area," Kristien Anderson, the Meadows Park Community Center Administrator Assistant, says. Interstate 25 is easily accessible for locals and can take them north to Denver.
Friendly prices in western Colorado Springs
Houses in the neighborhood range from around $265,000 for a ranch-style home with a garage to more than $410,000 for a modern, ranch-style home with renovations, several bedrooms and bathrooms and a fenced backyard. "The west side of Colorado Springs is very desirable," Janalyn Rhein, with Coldwell Banker Beyond, says. "You're closer to Woodland Park and shops, and everything is spread out," Rhein says. Homes sell, on average, after 40 days on the market, compared to the national average of 42. Broadmoor is adjacent to Stratton Meadows, where larger homes cost upwards of a million dollars.

Bring a car to Stratton Meadows
Stratton Meadows is a primarily car-dependent neighborhood with very few public transportation options. "Everything is to spread out; you are not going to walk," Rhein says. The neighborhood is about three miles from downtown Colorado Springs along South Nevada Avenue. Nine miles to the east is the Colorado Springs Airport, and a few miles to the west, locals will find natural terrain and several outdoor activities. "It is a great central location close to downtown and entertainment activities," Anderson says.
High marks for The Vanguard School
Students can start school at Stratton Meadows Elementary, a C school according to Niche. Stratton Meadows involves parents with events like Coffee with the Principal, where they can discuss important matters at the school. The next stop on their educational journey could be Fox Meadow Middle School, which receives a C-plus. Fox Meadow students can play interscholastic sports like basketball, soccer and football. Teenagers may attend Harrison High School, a B-minus institution. Harrison offers clubs like Hispanic Rhythm and Flavor Dance, Dreamers and Glee clubs. The Vanguard School receives an A, and Niche has as the top-ranked charter school in the Colorado Springs area.

Go shopping at the Nevada Corridor
Stratton Meadows neighborhood puts homes at the forefront, leaving very few shops and eateries in the area, but it does offer some convenience. “There is a lack of options in the neighborhood itself, but it is only five minutes from the Nevada Corridor,” Anderson says. Nevada Avenue borders the neighborhood to the west, and the popular thoroughfare includes big-name retailers like Home Depot, Ross and several others at Broadmoor Towne Center shopping mall. Mexico Real Family serves Mexican cuisine, like fajitas and enchiladas, where they emphasize their Mexican seasoning. Happy Eats Pasta offers a variety of pastas with complimenting sauces made from scratch. Safeway sits on the other side of Nevada Ave, with several chain restaurants and fast-food joints, like Red Robin, IHOP and Chipotle, lining the corridor.

Programs and activities at Meadows Park Community Center
Residents in Stratton Meadows are a short distance from Colorado's outdoor recreation activities. There are several hiking trails, mountains and outdoor spaces to the west, including the Broadmoor Seven Falls, scenic waterfalls and geologic monuments with a pathway through the mountains. Anderson says the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is also a major nearby attraction. Closer to home is Meadows Park, the local park with green space, a playground and baseball diamonds. The Meadows Park Community Center is a go-to area for recreation programs and services. Anderson says the center is a prominent point in the neighborhood and for connecting the community.
