Fairway Hills
Suburban Neighborhood in Columbia, Maryland
Howard County 21044
Townhomes with view of bunkers, greens and fairways
Most of the neighborhood is populated by apartments, each offering a range of amenities, with units available in everything from studio to three-bedroom models. The rest consists primarily of condos and townhouses lining cul-de-sacs that loop through the golf course, apart from one single-family subdivision. “A lot of people go to condos and townhouses because they’re more affordable than single-family homes,” says Nicole Carr of Samson Properties, an agent who’s sold several homes in the neighborhood. Some houses have wood siding while others present brick exteriors, and nearly all have both attached garages and concrete driveways. There is plenty of overflow parking in the neighborhood for visitors as well. Condos tend to sell at prices between $200,000 and $300,000 depending on the number of bedrooms, while townhouses cost from $450,000 to $600,000 depending on square footage, number of bedrooms and views of the golf course. Despite recent construction in other parts of Columbia, homes in Fairway Hills remain popular, Westcott explains, due to their particular style. “There are larger windows and more open concepts in the homes here, and lots of loft overhangs. Light filters through in a different way because these homes were just built with a different aesthetic sense,” Westcott says. “And you can build larger decks on homes here than compared to other parts of Columbia, which is great for the view.”The plentiful amenities provided by the Columbia Association
The Fairway Hills Golf Club is central to the community. The greens, bunkers and cart paths of the 18-hole course are woven through the neighborhood's subdivisions, allowing residents on the outer edges of the cul-de-sacs to look out on an artfully curated landscape from their back decks. City-wide, regardless of subdivision or village, residents pay the equivalent of a homeowner’s association fee to be part of the Columbia Association, a non-profit community service organization that manages recreational amenities throughout the city. This gives all Columbia residents access to fitness clubs, pools, the ice rink and art centers. The closest fitness center to Fairway Hills is the Columbia Athletic Club, which offers a weight room, racquetball and squash courts and a hot water therapy/recreational pool. Centennial Park borders the neighborhood to the north, a 337-acre green space surrounding a well-stocked man-made lake. Residents can rent canoes and paddle boats to meander out into the water or fish from the inlets that branch off from a nearly 3-mile walking trail around the lakeshore. About 1 mile south of Fairway Hills is the smaller Wilde Lake Park, which features picnic tables, playgrounds and a walking trail that allows for a pleasant stroll over to Columbia Lakefront Stage.Clubs, activities, celebrities and fitness memberships from Howard County Public Schools
