Children in Oakland Mills will attend different elementary schools depending on their neighborhood of residence; Stevens Forest, Thunder Hill or Talbott Springs. Stevens Forest Elementary first opened in 1972 and is for students from kindergarten to fifth grade. Students can then attend Oakland Middle School for sixth through eighth grade and participate in the annual spring musical. Students can then attend Oakland Mills High School and participate in Advanced Placement courses or the music and fine arts program. All the schools within Oakland Mills receive an A-minus from Niche. Oakland Hills Middle and High School have discovered mold within their school buildings over the past few years, although steps have been taken by the district to address and treat the afflicted areas.Neighborhood parks with connecting trails and local swimming pool
Each of the three neighborhoods within contain several parks, classified as Tot Lots, that include playgrounds, green space and benches for children and adults to enjoy. “There are community paths that go throughout the city as well as the neighborhood,” says Toner. “So you go through the forest and there are just small playgrounds along the paths.” In addition to the neighborhood parks, residents can stroll to Blandair Park, just east of the neighborhood. In the North Area of Blandair is an inclusive park as well as spots for croquet and ping-pong. There is also an eight-lane swimming pool and hot tub at the Stevens Forest Pool, open from May to September.Jazz Concerts, youth activities and nearby amphitheater
The Other Barn is used throughout the year for events ranging from plant sales to jazz concerts. It’s also possible to rent the barn for private events such as weddings. The Barn, just next door, is a Youth and Teen Center where children can participate in a variety of activities from tennis lessons cooking clubs. The Columbia Ice Rink, along the same road as the Other Barn, is an indoor rink for skating and hockey lessons. In Town Center is the Merriweather Post Pavilion where concerts featuring the likes of Brooks & Dunn and Thirty Seconds to Mars are held in the outdoor amphitheater.Neighborhood eating and shopping or nearby mall
The center of Oakland Park features not just The Other Barn and The Barn, but also a spot for groceries at LA Mart and Sams Mart and a dinner spot at Pizzaman. Crossing the pedestrian bridge into Town Center leads to the Mall in Columbia, where residents can shop at JC Penney, Macy’s or one of the other 202 stores.Rambling homes built in the 70s

Residents can use bus 407 to reach the Mall in Columbia, which comes once an hour. Due to the walking paths throughout, residents can also walk or bike to the nearby amenities, especially over the pedestrian bridge to the Mall of Columbia. Route 29, which begins in Florida and runs to the suburbs of Baltimore to the north, acts as the western border of the neighborhood.
