Just a few miles from downtown Columbia — known as The District — Meadows is a residential community complete with tree-lined streets, cul-de-sacs and its own neighborhood green space. Highpointe Park, located within the community, is often a go-to spot for recreational activity. However, it's typically not the amenities within Meadows that attract residents. Rather, it's everything that's nearby, according to local Realtor Jack Roush with Century 21 Community, who has experience throughout the Columbia area. It's just a few miles from the University of Missouri, known by locals as Mizzou, making it a popular spot among students and academics alike, according to Roush. Further, the community's mix of housing options and highly rated public schools appeal to a variety of homebuyers, resulting in properties selling in an average of 22 days, two times faster than the national average.

Ranch-style homes, condos and more
Meadows offers a mix of single-family homes and multifamily living options. Most homes are ranch-style designs or Cape Cods that flank wide, sidewalk-lined streets on which people often park. They typically sit on modest lots and cost between $250,000 and $350,000. There are also condos, which include townhouse options. These range in price from $150,000 to $220,000. "A lot of the condos and places in that area are lived in by students that go to Mizzou," Roush says. Another reason Meadows is popular among university students is because rental options are available at River Birch Apartments.

A highly rated public school district and the nearby Mizzou
Students can enroll in Columbia Public Schools, a district that receives an overall A-minus rating from Niche. They can start at B-rated Locust Street Expressive Arts Elementary, whose curriculum is centered around creative-based learning. In the past, students have put on shadow puppet performances, participated in a film festival and learned embroidery. From there, some students head to A-minus-rated Jefferson Middle, which operates through an application-based lottery system. It's known as a STEAM school and even has animals that students learn about and can take care of. Then, it's on to A-rated Rock Bridge High, home to everything from engineering electives to a planetarium. Those interested in continuing their education are conveniently less than 2 miles from Mizzou.

Highpointe Park, A. L. Gustin Gold Course and the Grindstone Nature Area
Highpointe Park features a sand volleyball court and playground, among other amenities that residents can enjoy. Golfers can head to Mizzou's public A. L. Gustin Golf Course. Or they can join the Country Club of Missouri, which boasts everything from an 18-hole course to pickleball courts. Hikers here can explore the Hinkson Creek Trail, which connects to the Grindstone Nature Area. The park stretches nearly 200 acres and features multiple trails that meander along a creek and through a leafy canopy of mature trees. Its off-leash area makes it popular among dog owners. The nearby Rock Bridge Memorial State Park is another go-to spot among hikers.

Nearby restaurants: Las Margaritas, Murry's and more
There are a number of nearby eateries. For those craving Mexican food, Roush recommends Las Margaritas. It offers a diverse selection of margarita flavors, as well as fajitas and burritos. Roush suggests Como Smoke and Fire for barbecue classics like brisket, mac and cheese and coleslaw. For other options, Roush points to the award-winning Murry's. "The steak sandwich is amazing," he says. Besides American classics, Murry's also hosts live jazz music. The community is also close to grocery stores like Aldi and Hy-Vee. Fresh produce and vegetables are available at the year-round Columbia Farmers Market. Columbia Mall is less than 6 miles away for retail shopping.

Mizzou football games
During football season, residents get decked out in yellow and black attire before heading to watch the Mizzou Tigers' home games. With a location within walking distance of the stadium, "you're going to be right there in the center [of all the action]," Roush says. "You probably could hear the stadium," he adds. This proximity doesn't mean that streets in the community get particularly busy on game days. Roush says that while the neighborhood is close to the stadium, it doesn’t receive much foot traffic as fans usually park a bit closer on Providence Road.
