Worley Street Park
An older housing market
Worley Street Park is laid out in a grid and homes here sit on modest lots and flank narrow streets where people often park their cars. Most homes in Worley Street Park were built between the '30s and '60s and reflect bungalow and ranch-styles; and while many people rent their properties, those interested in buying will find that homes typically range in price from $140,000 to upwards of $200,000. The median sales price settles in at around $160,000, which is about half of Columbia's median home price. This price difference is largely due to Worley Street Park's older housing market compared to the city's recent influx of new subdivisions. While some of these older properties have been recently updated, many still need renovation, according to Bennett. "A lot of people are definitely updating instead of selling," she says. When homes do go on the market, they sell after an average of 21 days, faster than the national average of 44 days.Mugs Up, Shakespeare's Pizza and more
In the community's northern corridor, there's a small commercial section. It's home to Mugs Up, a drive-in eatery that opened in 1955 and is known for its chili dogs. For other dining options, Bennett suggests restaurants in The District. "Everyone associated with the university says Shakespeare's Pizza is the place to go," she says. The pizza place has been serving the community for over 50 years and has racked up a number of awards, including the 2023 'Best of Columbia' silver honor for pizza. For burgers and ice cream floats, there's the retro-style Broadway Diner. It serves up local classics like 'The Stretch,' a hashbrown and egg dish complete with various toppings. There's also 'Matt's Dilemma,' a revamped version of 'The Stretch.' Nearby, The Heidelberg has become a go-to spot for drinks out, while Acola Coffee Company has become popular for cafe fare. For groceries, there's an Aldi location less than a mile north.Worley Street Park, Cosmo Park and more
The neighborhood is also home to its namesake park which features a playground and a basketball court. Less than 2 miles away, Cosmo Park spans over 500 acres, making it the largest park in the city. It features a number of sports amenities, including a roller hockey rink, tennis courts and soccer fields. Cosmo Park also boasts the public-use, 18-hole L. A. Nickell Golf Course. The Mizzou Tigers' Memorial Stadium is about 2 miles south of the community. There are also some smaller nearby recreational spaces, including the Clay-Shy Community Park, home of the year-round Columbia Farmers Market. The park also features the Activity & Recreation Center, which boasts a fitness center and an indoor pool.Commutes to Mizzou, The District and more
By car, bike or foot, The District is less than 2 miles away via West Worley Street. Residents can also take the bus — Go COMO's Gold Route offers 8-minute rides to and from the city center. The University of Missouri is about a 2-mile drive away via West Worley Street and North Providence Road; residents can also take the bus to the heart of The District and then walk to the university. Boone Hospital Center is nearly a 3-mile drive away via West Worley Street and Rogers Street. For farther commutes, Interstate 70 forms part of the community's northern border, and U.S. Route 63 is to the east. Route 63 offers connections to the Columbia Regional Airport, about 16 miles away.Public schools serving the community
Most students attend Columbia Public Schools, like West Boulevard Elementary, which receives a B-minus rating from Niche. The school's PTO holds several events, including the WBE Writing Celebration Open House, which features a collection of students' published work. Students continue to B-minus-rated West Middle, home to extracurriculars like an anime club and a kindness club. From there, most students head to Hickman High, which Niche gives an A-minus rating and ranks as the No. 2 public high school in the area. The school features graphic design and marketing electives.
