Lindsey Creek Park-Boxwood Estates connects classic suburbia to Midtown

Lindsey Creek Park-Boxwood Estates was laid out like many suburbs in the middle of the 20th century; a winding network of residential road defined by grassy lawns and complementary rows of single-family homes. This long-established neighborhood looks much the same as it did decades ago, though it’s gotten a boost from the continuing developing of Midtown, the aptly named center of Columbus known for convenience to the city and Fort Benning as well as its own growing centers of suburban life. “There’s a whole community in the Midtown area with the banks, restaurants and Columbus Public Library. Plus, you can get anywhere in 10 minutes because Interstate 185 is right there. It’s just a growing area, an easy place to live and take care of business,” says Andrea Shields, a Realtor at Keller Williams River Cities with 38 years of experience specializing in both Columbus and Phenix City.

Ranch-style homes on grassy, suburban lots

Lindsey Creek Park-Boxwood Estates has a decidedly midcentury look, full of classic ranch-style homes built in the 1960s. Despite the older influence, some ranch-style homes were also built into the 1970s to 1990s. Other development trends of the midcentury fill out the lots, including private driveways and garages or carports. Prices typically range from around $145,000 to $270,000, though fixer-uppers can go for less. Lindsey Creek Park-Boxwood Estates has a CAP Index crime score of 5 out of 10. This is on par with the national average of 4, but some violent crime scores are elevated in the neighborhood.

Different magnet programs at Muscogee County School District

Rigdon Road Elementary School earns a C from Niche, and Richards Middle School earns a B-plus. Older students are split between the C-plus-rated Carver High School and B-minus-rated Hardaway High School. Both schools offer different magnet programs, with Carver’s focusing on STEM education and Hardaway’s offering career and diploma programs that complement the school’s International Baccalaureate World designation.

Commuting around Columbus on I-185 and METRA buses

Commuters can access Interstate 185 just east of Lindsey Creek Park-Boxwood Estates, a major regional connector that offers an 8-mile drive to Fort Benning. Uptown, Columbus’ downtown area, is about 4 miles west. Those without a personal vehicle can hop on METRA’s buses as they pass through the neighborhood. Two hospitals, St. Francis-Emory Healthcare and Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown Campus, are about 3 miles away, and Columbus Airport is about 5 miles from home.

A cluster of Columbus recreation hubs within a mile of home

Columbus Public Library is less than a mile from the neighborhood, offering a quiet place for bookworms to browse the shelves and use the computers, alongside spaces for classes and community events. Outside the library, kids climb around the Bridging the Gap Community Playground. To beat the extreme heat of a Georgia summer, residents can head to the nearby Columbus Aquatic Center, an indoor complex that hosts lane swimming hours, swim meets and lessons.

Shopping and dining on Macon Road

Midtown’s commercial center continues to grow and develop near the intersection of I-85 and Macon Road, all within a mile of Lindsey Creek Park-Boxwood Estates. Shoppers stop at the Cross Country Plaza for retailers like Publix and T.J. Maxx. Across the road, the Midtown Shopping Center is anchored by ALDI and Five Below. Chain restaurants fill in smaller spots in the strip malls and pop out drive-through locations closer to Macon Road, including Starbucks, Chipotle and Panera Bread. Locally owned restaurants are some of the most popular in the area; Speakeasy has offered classic diner fare and ambiance for decades, and the original Country’s Barbecue location next door has become a Columbus barbecue staple since franchising across the city.

Community events at Columbus Public Library

Special events and festivals come to Columbus Public Library throughout the year. The Columbus Children’s Book Festival has been a beloved springtime tradition for a decade, inviting families to enjoy a day of crafts, scavenger hunts and author talks. “They hold all kinds of events at the main library – movies, classes, and different things geared toward adults and children,” Shields says.

A need for flood insurance along Lindsey Creek

Where Lindsey Creek curves through its namesake neighborhood, it brings a higher risk flood zone with it. While actual flooding is rare, buyers in these zones will likely require flood insurance in order to qualify for loans.
