Nostalgic Southern charm meets contemporary community living in Columbus
Despite its name, Old Town Columbus is one of the city's newest developments. What started as a vision of nostalgia transformed into a community that pays homage to the tight-knit small towns of yesteryear—but with modern updates. "It's like its own little village," says Realtor Mia Manns with Coldwell Banker and Kennon, Parker, Duncan & Davis. Manns has over 20 years of real estate experience. "It's been really popular—the houses are the creme de la creme. There are shops, restaurants, medical offices and community spaces. There's a Publix right across the street—this place is really a complete community that feels self-sustaining." In addition to the neighborhood's community amenities, Old Town has a mix of apartments, townhouses and single-family homes. The neighborhood earned a space as the top Southern Living-inspired community in 2016, and its charm has only improved in the years since.

A self-contained neighborhood offering restaurants, shops and spas
Old Town Columbus has a town square with wrought-iron balconies, outdoor cafe seating, and red brick sidewalks that make it feel similar to older southern cities like Savannah, Georgia. There's a wellness spa, pediatrician, hair salon, juice bar and clothing stores like Harlynn & Gray. Old Town has a town hall in the center of the community, with a lawn where the neighborhood screens outdoor movies and holds art festivals, cookouts and holiday celebrations. Residents can pick up pastries and coffee from The Brick-and-Mortar Cafe, sample the bourbon list at Charred Oak Kitchen + Bar or have an upscale French-inspired dinner at Morten's at Old Town. “Morten’s is a favorite. They change their menu monthly and use a lot of fresh locally grown ingredients,” Manns says. There is a Publix conveniently located across Veterans Parkway for groceries. Old Town is about 1.5 miles from Columbus Park Crossing, which has big box stores like Sam's Club and Target, chain restaurants and an AMC movie theater.

Customizable homes and colorful condos with luxury interiors
The residential areas of Old Town Columbus offer a mix of styles and prices to fit the personality and budget of buyers moving here. "It's more expensive to live here, but you get homes with very upscale modern interiors, and the exteriors have that older southern style," Manns says. "You also have so many community amenities—that's a pro when considering the cost." The Swallowtail Flats offer one, two and three-bedroom apartments ranging from $1,300 to $3,000 monthly. There’s also Legacy Reserve at Old Town, a retirement community. Townhouses are another option, with colorful exteriors and shutter-lined windows reminiscent of homes in Charleston, South Carolina. Buying a three or four-bedroom townhouse will typically cost between $450,000 and $500,000. Single-family homes take the southern inspiration even further. Think Cape Cods with deep set porches, Colonial Revival-inspired homes with colorful shutters or Neoclassical-inspired estate homes with large columns, second-floor balconies and wrap-around porches. Buyers can purchase an existing home or pick a homesite and build a customized home based on any of the 24 housing styles. Prices for single-family homes range between $600,000 to $1 million, typically depending on the size and number of customizations done.
