Berwick

The comfort of a 1950s suburb
“The area has grown over the years and people move here for the community and space,” says Terri Barnett, owner of RE/MAX Main Street who has lived and worked in the area for decades. Wide streets are lined by ample grassy yards and homes with cozy brick and stone siding throughout this suburban Columbus neighborhood. Ranch-style mid-century modern homes, cape cods, and craftsmen split-levels ranging from $100,000 to $500,000. Many homes originate from the 1950s, so the big factor in price is how much renovation might be needed. For those not looking for a single-family house but wanting the convenience Berwick’s location has to offer, condos and townhouses are available throughout the area, priced between $270,000 and $380,000.Hike Alum Creek or join the Gallery Players
Alum Creek Trail runs along the neighborhood's western edge, though Berwick residents do need to cross the busy U.S. Route 33 to reach the expansive green space and its 15-mile trail. Locals often gather at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Columbus, where they can enjoy the pool, dog pond, interior recreation center gym, playground and theater, where a local theater group, the Gallery Players, puts on performances. “It’s a big draw to the area. People go there to hang out, and there’s a lot to do,” says Barnett.Chain store favorites up East Main Street
Traveling north up College Avenue leads locals to East Main Street where they have access to Kroger and many different restaurants and shops. Fast-food favorites like McDonalds, KFC and Jersey Mike’s are readily available, and regional chains like the Rusty Bucket are popular with both students at Capital University and residents. The tavern and bar offers a classic American tavern menu with burgers and fried comfort foods and several weekday drink specials like Monday Motivation with vodka drinks.STEM and Arts are a focus for Berwick students
Students can attend Berwick Alternative K-8, a public magnet school rated C-minus by Niche that focuses on STEM and Arts and provides summer learning programs. From there, they can move to Mason Run High School rated D-minus, which serves as a career prep high school for over 200 students. The A-rated Bishop Hartley High School offers a private, Catholic education option, with religious leadership courses as well as a range of language, business and technology classes.Right outside the heart of Columbus
Interstate 70 borders the western and southern portions of Berwick, providing easy access across Columbus. Berwick residents can drive just a few miles to the bustling German Village and Brewery District areas of the city, and the heart of downtown Columbus is only a 5-mile drive.
