Forest Park West
Midcentury ranch styles and split-level homes
When it comes to houses, the atmosphere in Forest Park West remains unchanged from the 1960s. Midcentury split-level and ranch-style homes run parallel along the neighborhood’s slightly narrow, level streets. Greenery peppers the area, with mature trees and shrubbery in yards and between homes. Driveways and attached garages are standard, with lot sizes rarely going any larger than an eighth of an acre. “The money you spend for a house here goes a long way,” Lyman says. “You can get three-bedroom houses in the $200,000s.” Prices range from the low $200,000s to the high $300,000s, with square footage and condition being the deciding factors.Elementary and middle schools within walking distance
Forest Park Elementary School is centrally located and never more than half a mile from houses in the area. Niche gives the school a C rating. Also within the neighborhood’s boundaries, Woodward Park Middle School ranks at a C-minus. It offers clubs and extracurricular activities like the Power of the Pen club, Young Women in Science club and a Martin Luther King Youth Oratorical Contest. Older students attend Northland High, which is the largest high school in the district and rates a C.Preserved wetlands with miles of trails
Woodward Park is a 17-acre green space that makes up the southern end of the community. Equipped with lit tennis courts and baseball diamonds, it allows access to the Woodward Nature Preserve. Nature lovers prize this 34-acre stretch of preserved wetlands for its scenic beauty and walking trails. “It’s pretty amazing how you feel completely disconnected from the city,” Lyman says. “People from surrounding neighborhoods also come out to escape city life at the Nature Preserve.”Local specialty pizza
A Central Ohio staple since 1953, Ange’s Pizza specializes in Columbus-style thin crust and also has a selection of pasta and burgers on the menu. Central to the neighborhood is Sequoia Pro Bowl, which has 32 lanes of casual or league-play bowling. Karaoke makex the place particularly popular on Friday and Saturday nights. Morse Road has clusters of shopping and grocery options available, including Aldi and Kroger. The Easton Town Center is one of Columbus’ most popular shopping areas, with over 150 retail options, including Macy’s, Apple and Gucci.
Easy access to downtown Columbus
Interstate 71 runs along the neighborhood’s western side, providing commuters easy access to downtown Columbus, 11 miles south. The Central Ohio Transit Authority offers bus transit with stops along Karl Road. John Glenn Columbus International Airport is 12 miles southeast, while the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is about 11 miles away.Local competitions
The Forest Park Civic Association, founded in 1962, hosts regular neighborly events, including the front yard beautification contest in the fall and the parade during the Fourth of July.
