Northgate is a laid-back Columbus neighborhood near the interstate
Despite its proximity to Interstate 270, Northgate is a relaxed neighborhood in northern Columbus. You’ll mostly find homes and pocket parks in the area, but there are a handful of shops and restaurants nearby. Nature lovers move here for the nearby Sharon Woods, which offers plenty of outdoor activities. Residents enjoy the laid-back atmosphere while still benefiting from easy access to city amenities.
Split-level homes can be found throughout North Woods.

Mid-20th-century homes with a lot of character
Sidewalks line Northgate’s wide streets, where you’ll see a mix of split-level and ranch-style houses built between the 1960s and 1980s. There are also several Garrison Colonials. Most properties come with paved driveways and two-car garages, and there is room for street parking. “The houses have a lot of character and provide a good quality of life for anybody, including families,” says Realtor Andrew Balalovski, the principal broker of Balalovski Real Estate, who has over two decades of experience. While most of the neighborhood consists of single-family homes, there are some condos available. Prices generally range from the low $100,000s to the mid-$400,000s. The median single-family home price is in the low $300,000s, which is slightly higher than in Devonshire and Northern Woods. About 60% of residents rent.
Downtown Columbus is about 10 miles away
Northgate is located between two major highways: Interstate 270 and State Route 161. “While it’s situated within the Interstate 270 outer belt, Northgate is still a subdued and laid-back neighborhood that’s mostly residential, so there won’t be a ton of action there,” says Thomas Hamrick, a lifelong Columbus resident and Realtor with Keller Williams Consultants. “It’s convenient to major highways, but the neighborhood also has nice, quiet community parks and several schools within walking distance.” While proximity to the highways means increased traffic noise, it also makes commuting across the city relatively easy. You can reach in about 10 miles (20 minutes). Central Ohio Transit Authority buses also stop in the neighborhood.
Pocket parks and Sharon Woods encourage an active lifestyle
Most homes are within walking distance of pocket parks like Northgate Park, which has a playground and picnic tables. The neighborhood is just across the interstate from Sharon Woods Metro Park, a sprawling expanse with forests and fields. You can fish at the 11-acre Schrock Lake in the heart of the woods or hike along the many trails. The park also has a natural play area and the 320-acre Edward S. Thomas State Nature Preserve.

Students get career experience at Beechcroft High School
Northgate falls within the Columbus City School District, which has a school choice lottery that lets students apply to schools across the district. The neighborhood is zoned for Beechcroft High School, where students can get hands-on experience in career fields like entrepreneurship and sports medicine.

Shops and restaurants along East Dublin Granville Road
While the neighborhood is largely residential, you can find plenty of shops and restaurants along East Dublin Granville Road and in the neighboring suburb of Worthington. Dining options include:
