Diverse businesses and potential growth
Northern Woods is one of Columbus's newest communities and is expected to grow as job opportunities in the tech market open up. Plans to turn the region into the “Silicon Valley of the Midwest,” a phrase common in the area, promise to bring new construction and an influx of professional workers. “You’ve got Microsoft, Google and Amazon setting up data centers,” explains Sue Lusk-Gleich, Keller Williams Capital Partners Realtor. “Areas in the northeast actually have room to expand for something like that.” Northern Woods also has a multicultural reputation, with families from all over the world moving into the region. “It’s an incredibly diverse area,” says Jeff Mahler, Realtor with Keller Williams Capital Partners. “Especially with the local businesses and restaurants.” These factors and real estate prices well below the city average make Northern Woods a popular choice with new families and young professionals.

Midcentury-inspired home styles
Over two-thirds of residents rent their homes and live in the plentiful duplexes, apartments and townhouses that are available. With a median construction date of 1979, single-family homes are mostly contemporary and midcentury-inspired designs. Ranch-style, split-level and Contemporary Craftsman are common, often with wood or vinyl siding. Houses are on eighth-acre lawns that gently slope toward the sidewalk. Prices for ranch styles and Cape Cods begin in the low $200,000s, and well-maintained Craftsman homes start in the low $300,000s. Prices for the largest, most updated houses can reach as high as the mid-$400,000s. The average home price is in the mid-$200,000s, compared to Columbus' median price in the high $300,000s.

Opened in the fall of 2024, Zongo Link offers a unique menu of West African cuisine for every meal of the day, featuring fried yams, jollof and okra soup in a casual atmosphere. “If you’re going to try African food—and you should—the little mom-and-pop places in the neighborhood are where you need to go,” says Mahler. Mi Li Café has served traditional Vietnamese dishes like pho and banh mi since 2005. This laid-back spot gets busy on the weekends, but they accept reservations.
